I've read some people use the S2S mattress on the top bed instead of the factory one.

Please can somebody who uses the S2 let me know if you fully deflate it when putting the roof down and if you use it with the camper cutout (& inflation deflation holes) at the front or rear?

TLDR? You can. Some do. Some don’t. We don’t. The worry is inflation and roof damage.

You have to deflate to get the roof down. If you are not moving just push the roof up with it inflated through the day.

We have the cutout at the rear. Depends which way you sleep. Cutout for it works best feet end.

Deflate before lowering the roof.
Holes at open end for pumping up with air.

Thanks all, tried it yesterday and it fits better than I thought it would.
It feels a little weird with the S2S sitting directly onto the T6.1 individual springs so might get some cheap thin yoga mats today just to protect to the S2S. It still would be thinner that the standard roof mattress.

I've got my S2S directly on the individual springs. Amazingly comfortable and when deflated, can stay in the top when then the pop top is lowered.
Perfect solution for me

We deflate every time. Too worried about causing damage. We put it on top of the original mattress. We roll it onto the back seat, and both gently sit on it to encourage the air out, and then roll again, securing with bungee cords. It suits us. Worth the hassle as it’s so Damn comfortable.

To clarify, we don’t put the roof down with the S2S mattress. We keep the original up there, and whack the inflatable on top. And we remove it every time. Am I being utterly unhelpful? I did originally buy it with this in mind. But then chickened out of replacing the original and keeping the S2S up there at all times.

Replaced the original with the s2s. Original is in the garage.
S2s stays in the roof once deflated, although it does inflate itself over time.
Cutout is at the foot end, which for us is the shallow end at the back of the van.
That means the fill valves are accessible at the hatch end.
S2s cured my california bad back.

That shouldn't happen. Sounds like you have micro holes. Maybe time to use that lifetime warranty and get a replacement.

I had mine replaced with a brand new spanker.
It’s very very comfortable.
I slept for 7 hours straight on it last night in 24 degree heat inside the camper.
Woke up and it’s 7am and 19 degrees.
Lavely…

Back to the house tonight and wife has been opening the windows in the day and shutting at night.

So it’s 30 degrees in the house.
I kid you not …

On mine the inflation ports are at the cut out end. I’d have preferred it the other way around and to put the cut out at foot end.

I use the air mattress with a small pump(from Amazon) to pump up and suck out the air for deflation. It’s much more comfortable than the standard mattress and lives in the roof - the standard mattress is at home! A very worthwhile and practical purchase. The standard mattress was always giving me a stiff back

We started using the S2S SIM in the top bed (and leaving it there) this summer and it worked much better then we could have expected. We use a rechargeable pump (as suggested by forum users) to inflate and deflate it. Works a treat and the noise is not as noticeable as I expected. If you deflate it using this pump, the S2S SIM had a lower profile then the original matrass (at least in our T5.1).
