Securing the pin for the spare wheel carrier - suggestions

I’ve looked at available videos & threads but apart from a makeshift bit of foam and a suggestion of bending the pin(?) it appears to be a bit flimsy/insecure for such a heavy object… any suggestions?

It works perfectly well. I added a spare wheel to my van and just bent the pin. The sponge is to stop it rattling. It also has to pivot up and down to get the wheel in and out

Appreciate the reply - securing the bracket at one end without at least bending the pin(as shown in a video)… seemed reckless to say the least

Just about to do the same does look flimsy but has worked all these years!
