I am wanting to swap/sell my 2011 4motion California with grey leather seats for an automatic California BUT am still on the waiting list for the warranty work to be done on the roof corrosion.
any ideas whether this is likely to happen as I don't believe anyone would want to buy it with the visible corrosion to the roof. am STILL waiting for VW to answer this question and they are not rushing to reply as I have written twice already

Just explain to the buyer that its on the waiting list. Most buyers will be aware of the issue.

thanks yes I'm hoping so but I am struggling to get the confirmation from VW themselves that this is the case. just wondered if anyone else had sold with the front looking such a mess

I have seen reputable specialist dealers selling with obvious corrosion!
Rather than contacting VW why don't you contact the dealer that carried out the assessment and booked it in for the repair?
From my experience the dealers carry out the check/recall, submit photos to VW who then give the dealer the authority to make the booking directly with the approved bodyshop.

thank you, thats reassuring to know they have them on the forecourt with corrosion!. the waiting list is not going down and I have been on it for years. I contacted VW UK who gave me a list of the very few body shops they have approved (as I asked if I could get my local very good one to do the job). I have contacted all ( 6) throughout UK who are only taking on Californias local to them. I am ringing the dealer who authorised it again today SMG Cowfold to see if there is any update on my position but the last time I called they said there were around 10 in front of me!!! (after all these years of waiting I find that very hard to believe) and the place that does the repairs (somewhere in Twickenham) were not actually doing any at the moment for some reason

We have now been on the waiting list for 3 years - 2012 Beach (they indicated 2 year wait initially when they flagged during service, nothing in writing, just a verbal indication) also with SMG Cowfold; They made no mention of it on last service so assumed that no action taken unless you push them, and to be honest seeing the state of some of the repairs carried out we are happy to leave as it is for the moment!

well I have been pushing them and still no joy hence the request to VW UK to use a local body shop. as you can see from the photos not nice to look at when you are buying your first California? but need to change to an auto as soon as

I think that might scare off some prospective buyers.
If you are in a hurry to sell it might be worth getting a decent car body shop (probably a classic car specialist) to spray the cap. Only problem with that would that the VW warranty would be void.
True, but probably a better, no problem , repair.

Might we worth trying this place for a quote.

They have a good reputation locally and we’re respraying a T5 when I drove past their unit today:

Am I reading this right? People still on waiting list for 2011/12 models? a ten year wait?
or have I drunk too much wine tonight?
I thought waiting 24 months from our confirmed diagnosis (and recognition from VW it existed due to this forum's pressure group) to going in to be done was slow ...(2011 SE)
OK it takes a while till fault comes through from new but even so that means you been waiting for 6 or 7 years...that's shockingly disturbing...I'd be contacting VW to say I was contacting likes of Watchdog!

Matt Alwright has a Cali ;)

I bet his roof would be fixed in a week

From my past experience. I wouldn’t let Volkswagen anywhere near the roof fix…
Search out a good local body shop and get the roof repaired yourself.
I know there’s a cost, but it will be less headache and have the van ship shape and ready for sale.
The roof in its current state will definitely put off potential buyers and probably cost more in a reduced sale price.

Webuyanycar is an option.

Thank you for this Im going to give them a call. Having read the reports on the poor repairs done by Vw it may be best. My only concern is that if it returns there is no warranty from Vw to repair again. Wonder if this would put off a buyer?

Yes I’m considering this but when I read the threads there is talk of replacing seals/bellows/ roof not working properly after the work is done - so worried about that aspect

I’m feeling pretty stupid that it has gone one this long/ life gets in the way sometimes of keeping on top of everything. I’ve been contacting and complaining but I’m guessing others have been more persistent or know how to play the system. And I’m a woman - who is maybe too polite to them?
I’ve contacted VW Uk several times too and recently sent them the photos suggesting I’m not a good advert for their californias. All to no availl
The best I got was a list of the very very few body shops they have authorised to do the work
I’ve contacted them all who are refusing to take people outside of their area

Thanks. I did try them but last summer they were offering £38,500 - now it’s dropped to £28,500 ( unseen)
that's not a bad price for a T5. if you leave the valuation for a week or two i often find it goes up.
