Service parts advice

Hi I’m about to order parts for my first service on my 2008 2.5 deisel 174-4 motion. My question is do I go with the oil recommendation in the manual or is tgere a better quality oil I should use. Van has done 90k miles and the first owner has had it serviced every year. Just want to give it the best as hoping to hold on to it for a good few years? Thanks in advance

Oil works hard in diesels.
I stick to VW spec oil and genuine filters.
In reality not much saving with cheaper oils.
