Taken this morning at Busfest all six generations side by side: 1960 Westfalia, 1976 Westfalia, 1980 Westfalia, 1996 Custom T4, 2102 T5 Cali (ours),2015 T6 Cali (LHD demo from Germany here for weekend only)

Thanks David, good luck to those going for the T6, however there seems to be little which differenciates it from the T5 in looks or deliverable (I have a LHD so get the front screen blinds etc anyway) so I can't see myself making the change anytime soon :)

Great line up :thumb

I would like the leftmost one, fitted out with a Cali interior and a Porsche engine :)

Oh, and some brakes and airbags please ...

I hate to say this but I prefer the look of the T5.

I think also the 150 v 204 is going to be a les clear choice than 140 v 180.

Wonder when they actually launch a T6? ;)

Actually, I agree with GJ, the T5 GP looks better than the T6... but then again I prefer the T4 long nose over the T5 pre-facelift.

Awful choice of T4 to include in the photo :(
There was a few good Westfalia pop tops there to have chosen from.

"I think also the 150 v 204 is going to be a les clear choice than 140 v 180"......is there a clear choice between the 140 and 180 bhp......?? Don't think so ! Agree that the 150 does look to be a good option...

I was at busfest keen to see the "T6" california, when all it seemed to me was an updated T5, ok the cab has a different dashboard and the engine is different but no I'll wait until the T? comes out.
Maybe i am wrong but i think the T6 is a stop gap for VW to get rid of body panels etc for the production of a new "T" series transporter.
ps. I can't see the RHD version cab being like the LHD that was at the show?

I drove both when I was looking and found with a DSG there was noticeable difference in both response and cruising although, in retrospect, I now appreciate how much more sedate I am when driving the Cali so the 140 would have suited me fine.

The 150 attracts me as it is simpler, cheaper and not too far off the performance off the 180.

There were lots of T4 calis but no-one willing to drive away from camping plot for a photo:sad we asked all over the 4/5 forum area ... plus many were just hemmed in making getting bus out impossible oh well..
would have been perfect with a T4
it was all last minute we were lucky to get this sorted at all....

The cab in the T6 at busfest will not be what we get in the UK, that cab is very similar to T5 Euro California, we will get the T6 builders van cab:thumb

Nearly bought a new T5 180 DSG in September but changed to an order for T6 150 PS with more options for nearly the same price.

0-60 in 14.2 is not that much different to the 180 0-60 in 12 point something, 105 top speed is the same as 155 top speed when stood still on the M6 and I'm sure it has the guts for any hill I may want to climb,

if the 5.1 is called the facelift I have a feeling the T6 is going to be the stroke ;)

I am not so negative about the T6.

Engine apart it should be the T5 but with chronic problems such as roof rot sorted. I am not that condemnatory about the dash in the T5, I can drive it for hours on end and still get pleasure sitting in it so I really do not need much more. It's a camper, it's there to do a job rather than look pretty.

If I was buying a camper to take me off to some fairly remote locations in dodgy weather the least that I would worry about would be what it looks like. What would give me acute hypertension and have me grasping for the Imodium would be driving around in a remote location in something that I know to be a collection of untried new parts.

Tweaks and turns to me are far more appealing than the glitz and glamour of something revolutionary.

gotta disagree with you gj ... of all the things that needed tweaking the front end wasn't one off them ... imo x

Thanks for the above. Us buyers of the T6 are excited about hitting the road in our camper.
It's the new engine/ suspension we are looking forward to experiencing . Yes it may have problems but it will come with warranty.

Well, that is where imo applies.

The front end is one of those "in the eye of the beholder" things and not something crucial to my comfortable existence although I do accept it can be of great issue to others.

As said earlier, I don't like the front end as much as the T5 but for me it is irrelevant, what is relevant is there is nothing revolutionary going on elsewhere that may leave me high, dry and without shelter in some remote and inhospitable places. Were I, in time to replace Albert with a T6 it would be with the comfort of knowing that whatever Albert did for me in terms of keeping me comfortable and safe so his successor will do also.

Agree that new owners who have placed an order are exited ...and they should be!
The will be getting a extreme good quality lesiure verhicle!

As for many happy T5 owners not much to exited about , specialy not me as a LHD owner with a pretty good looking dashboard already.
And a 140bhp DSG is all i need at the moment
The new cupholders are useless anyhow! And some extra lights in the booth,....just minor things i will not be jealous of not having them.
The new roofvanvas to me seems the only suficiant plus that a T6 would have to my 2012 T5.

Great picture anyhow....

Fabulous picture!

Where?

I'm all jealous :D

No one asked us if we would like to have Corky in the photo. We camped all weekend on the california club site . Would have been up for it.

As for the T6 the major changes are mechanical, both drive train and running gear. Also emissions have been reduced.

If the T6 has lower mechanical tolerances than the first T5 in search of lower emissions , then beware as VW have a history of egr, dpf, cylinder bores, and injection problems across their vehicles. Hopefully VW have learnt from previous mistakes.

We might have to wait to know which engines are more robust and less temperamental.
