Smoking.

I am trying to pack in the fags. Smoked continuously for 45 years.
I have been without for 10 days nows and climbing the walls. I have patches and gum.
I am planning a trip away in the van on Wednesday. Any reformed smokers out there who can suggest was to keep me off them?

Avoid alcohol and smokers, and every day put the money you would have spent on cigarettes in a jar. When it mounts up treat yourself to something special. I found gum the best substitute, although was hooked on that for quite a while! It really does get easier with time. Best of luck, stick with it.

make sure you have new routines instead of usual ciggie...my worst time is just after breakfast sitting with a coffee...its just habit so need to have new ones...
in end its down to will and determination ultimately... not things I am good at...

10 days down, you're pretty much over the hard part. The thing to do is just never have another cigarette and you're done. I tried many, many times to stop and then it just happened one New Years at the strike of midnight... all my mates took the michael and that was what spurred me on. After 10 days, you simply can't have another!! I found that grabbing a lit cigarette from one of my mates and giving it a sniff was enough to keep me going for a few weeks.. and after that few weeks, I found that I didn't like the smell. And then after a while, food started tasting better too. I tried the gum and patches - they did nowt for me.

As said above, perhaps put the money you would have spent on cigarettes into a jar each day - maybe a clear one and only put £1 coins in. Watch it grow.

Stick with it, you won't regret it!! Good luck.

Short bursts of exercise. Endorphins released from exercising (as well as the oxygen hit) have a very similar stimulant effect to nicotine. When you crave a cig, take 5 deep, fast lungfuls of air instead.

Also get yourself a blood pressure monitor for your wrist. Track your blood pressure each day to measure the improvement to your health - it's noticeable and rewarding

Hypnotherapy worked for me plus patches, put the money away and have a little spend up ,once a month,try and exercise , and be proud that you have gone ten days already ...when you look back you will realise that it's probably the best thing you ever did !! Hypnotherapy does not make you feel like you don't want one but it does give you the determination not to give in ...

Big congrats, you've already done it! Now it's just the matter of keepin doing it.
Gums and patches help, but as Fred said above: exercise is a great way of continue getting the rewards that nicotine gave you.

I've had huge problems not starting smoking again, for me vaping was the answer. Been off smoking for almost 2 years now and the transition was a substantial increase in life quality. I enjoy vapor more than the cigarettes, havE lowerd my nictine strength to ¼.
But if you can beat the addiction without, that's even better. Since e-ciggs are neither money saving nor less addictive (guess more on a hobby level though.).
Health and odor benefits are still immense.

I'm 5 years quit What help me during the first stages was to think back on the time I had already stopped for and that I'd promised my wife I'd stop so having to go and tell her (or friends) that I'd failed wasn't ever going to happen so when it was difficult I thought about what it would feel like to be a failure.

Can't help with the nicotine replacement options I just tuffed it out
