So after the best part of 3 years we've sold our Coast and upsized to an Adria Twin Sports 640 SGX.

We had some great holidays in the Cali and have spent the last few summers touring France, but we found that we wanted that little bit more space, plus loo and shower. Having ummed and arred for ages, we eventually took the plunge on a new Adria.

Over night camped at the supplying dealers on pick up to check for any snagging issues. Gave us a little more insight into the benefits we were looking for. So having the large longitudinal bed downstairs is great. Moves up and down electronically to access the garage which is big enough to store our bikes in along with all other camping nonsense. On the maxi chassis so lots of payload.

Loo is great and even the shower, although cramped, pumps out hot water and it's good enough.

Pop top is large enough and we got a few extras with this one including heated mattress and an internal insulated wrap for it which helps extend the camping season.

Downsides we knew about. It's 6.36m long and drives very much like a van. Although I said that about the Cali until I got use to that and then that felt like a big car. We'll clearly need to be more careful and plan parking, but it's not a daily driver so not too much of an issue. Finally, the dashboard of the fiat Ducato base isn't a patch on the California. It does rattle more, but then there's more to rattle. That said, it doesn't have the anything squeaky steering wheel that I could never resolve on our coast - and I have a plentifully supply of foam pads to silence things when they arise!

Oh, and the Cali was far better looking, and cooler, but I still like the Adria!

Frist full trip to the lakes in Feb half term, which we probably wouldn't have done in the VW.

Thanks for all the advice and tips from this group over the last few years. It's been invaluable.1000036466.jpg1000036386.jpg

please do share your thoughts and experiences with the Adria. It's an option of interest for those needing more space! :)

@Boomer look up the Adria twin Facebook group, there’s a member that makes headboards for the rear doors that just slide into place to protect the blinds

I hope you have some fantastic journeys and plenty of fascinating stories to tell… please keep me/us updated. Enjoy your travels :)

Wishing you good journeys with the Adria! We also looked quit some times to "something" bigger, but a thing for us that always was a no-go (up to now) was the cramped feeling we get when sitting on the passenger bench and the upright sitting position in most vans. (except for the Sven Hedin). How are your thoughts about that?

I've joined that group. Very helpful and picked up some good tips. I've seen the headboards. Might have a go at making summer myself!

The rear bench isn't too bad in the Adria - not compared to some others we tried. Just spent a week away in the Lake District and covered around 250 miles and my son didn't complain once.

Thank you. Just been away to the Lake District for half term and was excellent. As mentioned, it doesn't drive as well as the California, but the camping experience suits us much better. It rained (as expected!) but we were not on top of each other or having to move things about to find kettles and pans etc. Plus having a toilet and shower is a massive bonus when the weather's horrible.

We did similar just over a year ago, sold our Ocean and got an Adria Twin Sports 600 SPB. We loved the Cali, but the Adria suits our needs better.

That's a lovely colour. Would have been my preferred option but there were not that many of the 2024 models left to choose from.

We ordered ours back in November 2022, and had choice of colour except orange (which they didn't do in the Sports model). Took delivery Feb 2024. A long wait but it was worth it.

We’ve just bought a Hymer Yosemite. 10yrs with the Cali and some fantastic memories all over the UK and Europe. Looking forward to new ‘good times’ with a bit more camping comfort. Picking it up next week. Cali sold without advertising via word of mouth - will miss it but time for a change.

Are these suitable for daily drivers would you say?
Hmmm. Depends. If you don't need to park anywhere with restricted parking etc, then yes. I've used it for school runs, supermarket shops, taking my son to rugby practice etc. But if you need it to travel for work into a city, then probably not. And you probably need to research parking options for any new places your venturing to. But as I work from home, I don't really have need for a "typical" daily driver.

Thanks Boomer. It looks absolutely brilliant and would no doubt transform comfort for us 4 too.

Enjoy the new van! We did the same thing three years ago…but switched back to Cali last year!☺️

Oh! Tell us why!
The Cali is just a lot more practical for us two. We didn’t need the toilet (nice but not really necessary because we mostly camp on campgrounds) and shower (used that once, totally impractical concept). The comfort of the seating area is actually a lot better with the reclining bench and easily movable table of the Cali. The length of the bed in the bigger van was too short for me. And we love the tent feel of the upstairs pop top. And lastly the ride is just so much better (drives like a nice quiet luxury car versus drives like a rather noisy lorry). Doing 160 on the German autobahn that’s really nice again ;)

Thanks @DJ315 !
I love our Cali but my eye has recently been drawn to these 6m vans… it’s good to hear a real life contrast to the utopia in my head.
