We're off to stay at a holiday let near Duras in August for a week and plan to drive there, camping for a night or two on the way and on the way back to break the journey up. Very happy to stay at municipal sites, however if anyone knows anywhere particularly unique or noteworthy somewhere around halfway from Calais to Duras, I'd love to hear about it!

We stopped here, Amboise, on the way to Bordeaux in September, and thought it was great. Nice little walk into the interesting little town and some nice views from the island

Municipal site, but the facilities were decent. The pitches are open, no hedges or anything, but large enough for a day or two.
We plan to use this site again.
Couple of nice bakeries, but this is the one we went to:

Thanks Sad, weirdly that one had come up on a quick google earlier! Good to hear a positive review of it and it’s ideally located.

+1 for Amboise -

Municipal Campsite in middle of the river (island) with views to the Historic castle, open pitches , decent facilities, minutes from historic town, (swimming pool directly outside campsite )

historic town , former residence of the King of France and home to Leonardo Da Vinci - Castle & museum open to paying guests, tourist train tour takes you around the sites for a couple of euros each. Plenty of bars & restaurants etc.
lovely walks along the river etc.

Various supermarkets close by , just out of town. (Google)

Very picturesque, houses built into cliff face, Medieval timber frame building etc etc.

Edit:
Pack a coat when out & about, we were caught in a biblical down pour, end of July, many were caught out with no coat.
