SUP on Cali roof?

I know there have been a few posts about roof racks and paddleboards but I was wondering...............
So I can easily take my semi-inflatable Paddle board on the car by attaching it to inflatable roof bars as it's not heavy. Could I get some sort of clip to fix down in the C-Channel in the roof and strap it directly there? I know I could get some roof bars but that's an expense. Has anyone else ever had this thought?

You could make some using slide nuts and a threaded eye bolt, they are available in various sizes.
