Hi everyone, Just on the off chance, Does anyone have a bearing puller kit for the above please which I may be able to borrow for an hour? I live just north of Swindon and need to replace a rather wobbly and noisy baring. Happy to come and collect and return if you are close to me. FYI the bearing is 85mm.

Thanks so much in advance.

Martin

Hi Martin,

These are an absolute swine to do. I tried to help a mate change one of his bearings and we could not split them. We tried a puller, heat, then bigger puller and nothing. We ended up taking the whole assembly off and to an engineering spot to have the bearings changed.

Let me know how you get on with yours.

Thanks for the reply.... I'm only guided by this helpful video... what do you think??

Well, it's like most things I suppose - easy if you have all the right tools. We didn't have access to that type of puller which I think is why we couldn't do it. Probably cheaper to pay a garage a couple of hours labour than buy the correct tool like he has. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

I think I heard him say it was a $napon puller kit. It will definitely be cheaper to find a specialist that to buy or hire the puller.

I tried changing a front bearing on my Landrover Discovery - similar size of suspension setup - and that was a complete nightmare. Bearings are only designed to move with the correct persuasion these days. I ended up taking my front hub to a local garage with a 15t press.

Edit: Or buy the cheap kit that @Loz has found!

85 MM pullers are about £80 from sites on eBay - take care to get the right size. Without a puller its a big deal!
In the end our local garage is going to do it for about £105 so £25 as the difference sadly the garage gets the business... I say sadly as I would loved to have had a go. Hence the request for the borrow of a puller.
Thanks for everyones comments though.

Is it front or rear wheel bearing? Front would be even harder to do as would need to strip out driveshaft too. I like a challenge but when you’re doing it outside on the drive and it starts raining you do ask yourself why you are putting yourself through it just to save a few quid.

its rear.

Its the rear bearing. Not 4WD.

Thanks for the link - need to take care, the baring is 85mm and so needs a bigger puller. £80 rather than £50... nice of you to look it up for me though.

thanks

Good point, it was just a cursory look and out of interest really, I'll correct my op.
