Hi I have read the history of this problem . I have had my T5 for 11 years with no problems at all. just discovered today the lens is missing!
Would be nice if you could just buy the lens . Im wondering, is it easier to remove the lens from a new unit rather than removing the door trim ? Looks like a task to take it off?
Many thanks for any advise

You have to change the whole light , as it is one unit.
You will need some trim tools to take boot trim off I started with the left hand side as you are facing the boot. Took about twenty minutes the hardest part is pulling the trim off it feels like it’s going to break.

Hi managed to replace the light today with a new one and just avoided the storm . The hardest bit is taking the trim off ! I thought that the roller blind holder was part of the trim and didnt realise that you need to take this off because there is a bracket behind the trim where the centre screw goes through.

I didnt realise until Id got most of the trim off that I could not fully remove it because it was held. by the bracket . So if anyone is reading this please make sure you take the blind holder off as one of the first jobs ........good luck

Hi ,

I need to replace my brake light on T5 Cali and not sure where to start?

In the photo do you need to remove Part A or both Part A and B?

What tools do I need to remove trim and do you have any instructions or photos to help me when you changed yours.

Help much much appreciated as I can’t afford VW dealership prices to replace and I have brought the light unit already.

You only have to remove the top part (A).
In the hook for the blind, you have 2 blind stops. With a very thin flat head screwdriver you have to get them out. Release the 2 T25 (or T20?) torx screws. Then you take off the hook and pull the top trim out of the metal clamps. Release the 3 screws of the brake light and take the light out.
Replace and put everything together in reverse order. Make sure you put the top trim back in all the metal clamps the correct way.
I then made a small opening in the blind stops so I can take them out easier next time.
