Our heater seems to automatically turn off after two hours. Can anyone explain why? How do keep it on continuously?

Hey, as a quick start, two easy possibilities:
- there are 2 options, "heat continuously" and "heat immediately". Are you choosing "heat continuously"? Otherwise it gives a boost and (I'm sure I remember) it switches off.
- are you low on elect and/or fuel? It doesn't work if low on either.

Thank you Sunshine&Snow. We’re selecting ’heat immediately’. Maybe that’s the problem then?

Heat immediately will only run for a maximum of 2 hrs, can be set for a shorter time. Once a total run time of 2 hrs is reached it switches Off and the timer has to be reset by driving the vehicle a short distance. Heat Continiously stays on for as long as you want until switched Off.

Brilliant! Many thanks WelshGas

Frustratingly, we’re now selecting ’Heat Continuously’ and nothing is happening! Perhaps, we’re not doing something correctly?
As above, you need to drive the van to clear the lockout.

And the remote is equivalent to "heat immediately"

This is a good video on heating.

Heat immediately does just that and for, I believe, 90 minutes. Then it switches off.

Heat continoulsy does that - heat for as long as it is on. It will switch on and off as it does so to maintain the temp you set. If you set it lower than the internal van temp, it won't come on. 5 or 6 is a good "all day" setting we find in the current weather in the UK. It can also take 5 - 10 minutes to kick in, so don't be worried if it's not immediately kicking out hot air. It will.

Here's a good chart for temp settings

I wonder why VW don’t then put the temp as the value rather than a number..?
I think probably so many variables affecting the temperature reached when set to a particular level, such as ambient temperature, roof position, number of occupants, ventilation, doors opem/Close etc.
