T6 2020 - 5th seat fitting - do I need to remove the metal shelf behind the bench ?

I've got a 2019/2020 late T6 with 3 rails and I want to get the cumbersome 5th seat for unavoidable trips with 5 people.
Only two will camp in any case so the upper bed will suffice.
I've read a bit on the forum and watched California Chris

My question is - Do I really need to remove the heavy rears metal shelf to fit the 5th seat?
because that means taking lots of stuff out including the mattress.

Is it possible to fit the 5th seat leaving the rear mattress folded on its metal shelf?
Is it possible to travel with that or there will really be not enough legroom at all? 18-20 yo people in the back so they're more flexible than me.

I think you’ll need to remove it, for two reasons.

You need to move the bench seat back far enough to allow enough space for the 5th seat to be able slot in.

And in theory even if the above was not true, there would be so little leg room to use the 5th seat if the bed was still in place, you probably remove it anyway.
