There seems to have been an unacceptably high number of build errors on new T6s over the past few weeks. I thought it would be useful to gather these in one place so we can see the extent of the problem, support each other, and decide whether we feel we should make representation to VW as a club.

A number of us have already created threads specifically relating to our own issues. However, can I ask you to post a very brief summary again here. I am not going to ask people to name dealers at this stage as some of us are still in discussion over compensation.

Please can you post:
  1. What you ordered
  2. Date ordered
  3. What was built wrongly
  4. When you were notified (or you discovered it)
  5. Proposed resolution
  6. Current status
I'll post first as an example.

  1. T6 Ocean 204 DSG
  2. Early November 2015
  3. No front or rear parking sensors
  4. When I tried to work out how to turn them on !
  5. VW OEM sensors are being retro-fitted by a specialist. I am also expecting some compensation in the form of accessory vouchers.
  6. Pending

My Beach has been fine. I think. It also came 4 weeks early.

I will be honest and say I have hardly done more than drive it back and forth to furniture shops and on the school run, as just moved house at the same time, but rattle aside, all seems well. Can't imagine living without parking sensors knowing the narrowness and parking issues on my street.

VW Preston have been fab (as has Guy Vincent).

Still trying to get a list of options I got based on a VIN. The codes in a car are simply impossible to read. They typed it pretty bad.

3. No 4motion
4. Notified when dealer received
5. No satisfactory resolutions suggested
6. Raised with dealer and now vw sales. Pending response from vw

I just got back from picking up my Cali having had the parking sensors fitted. The specialist that the dealer got in has made a good job of it. They are VW OEM parts and I could not spot any difference between the retro-fit and the factory fitted sensors on the demonstrator that it was parked next to.

I have also agreed a compensation package with the dealer of a free bumper protector and rear spoiler. I'm happy with this as I now have the Cali I ordered, albeit with a qualified warranty on the sensors.

It's taken 5 weeks and has been frustrating but my confidence and trust in the dealer has been re-built. I still believe there are major flaws in VW's ordering process though so anyone placing an order should take great care and satisfy themselves that the build spec is as it should be.

Good luck to the others that are still sorting errors out. Decide what you will be happy with and then stick with it. Don't hesitate to come back to the forum for support. It's been invaluable for me.

Glad to hear that your dealer has sorted this out to your satisfaction!! Any pics of the spoiler would be good when you get a minute! :) I always have my eye out for accessories! ;)

They've got to order the spoiler in and spray it - so probably looking at a couple of weeks. I'll put a piccie up as soon as it's done. Might be one of the first as they only took delivery of one for their demonstrator this morning.

The automatic roof hatch opening function (so popular on the T5 Cali's) does not work on my new T6 Cali. I find that I keep reaching up every now & again whilst driving & it is still closed :).

Thankfully, the table rattle & most of the other niggly bits from T5 are still present on the T6 so I have still got something else to whinge about :bananadance.

Mine is in with SMG at present having the table rattle fixed :shocked

I'm disappointed!

Does this mean that I can't pass Albert off as a T6???

I'm going to whinge to VWCS

Only if you are on your 3rd high level brake light.

Should the cruise control+multi-function steering wheel option mean you get the MF Steering Wheel or just cruise control on the wheel stick?

I just got the cc on the stick and no buttons on the wheel.

No you have to order the mfsw separate at ÂŁ330 to have controls on the wheel. Must admit it is poorly worded in your options list though!

It looks like you got what you have paid for (according to the price list) but not what the description says. Depending on your discussions with the dealer and your expectations, you may wish to have a discussion with the dealer unless you already have had it.
The adaptive cruise control option does include the MSFW so this could have caused the confusion. It is inevitable without a proper configurator, VW should be ashamed. :headbang

Have just added the mfsw to my order after seeing someone's beach interior shot of the standard wheel and realising it had no controls at all. Annoying that VW will list cruise and multi function wheel and only give you the cruise element for it. Wording is very poor.

Pesky table rattle... I said I wouldn't complain about occasional rattles after the cacophony of rattles in our previous van. That blooming table though....

Mine turned out not to be the table but in fact the blind that slides into the wardrobe.

  1. T6 Ocean 150 Manual
  2. Early September 2015 (collected January 2016)
  3. No Multifunction Steering Wheel (as per order)
  4. Identified on collection / handover
  5. Dealer agreed to fit MFSW retrospectively (appeared to be order code error/confusion/change by VW)
  6. Ordered and fitted.....however....
...in fitting the MFSW they managed to scratch the clear instrument display cover, but the dealer hasn't fully admitted this was done whilst it was in. Unfortunately, just the cover can't be replaced as apparently it is a sealed unit and so the whole dash would need replacing at significant cost - we haven't yet decided whether to push for this and go to these lengths, or live with the very fine scratches. Decision is not helped by the fact that the dealer is 50 miles away and we have also had to have the two rear bumper radar sensors replaced under warranty over 2 separate visits. The Side Scan stopped working just 2 weeks from collection, 1st repair visit replaced one radar, but still didn't work so then had to order the second after they realised both had to be replaced at the same time! Also left oil on the drivers floor mat. A total of >4 repeat/repair visits in first 2 months of ownership - this is an amazing vehicle and we love our Cali Ocean, but it is a premium purchase and we are hugely disappointed by the overall level of service, quality checks and reliability of parts provided by VW and their dealerships! We hope to start enjoying it now after an underwhelming start to ownership......

Hopefully you have had all your grief early

Mike

A sorry tale. To be fair to my dealer the post delivery service has been faultless and fortunately they are only 15 miles away.

One small word of caution. Someone posted previously about a missing mfsw ( although I can't find it right now) and was told that retrofit was not possible. This might mean that your retrofit is a dealer initiative and may not be recognised by VW. I'd recommend getting written clarification as to whether the retrofit is covered by VW warranty or just by the dealer. I had a similar issue with the parking sensors. VW do not recognise retrofit. My dealer found a specialist who would do it but it means that the warranty is dealer underwritten and not part of the VW vehicle warranty. This was never pointed out to me until I asked for written clarification. I then took this into consideration in the compensation that I agreed.

The situation with the display damage is trickier. Especially if they haven't accepted liability. If the scratches are not too significant I'd probably be inclined to live with it and seek compensation. If they are significant you do ultimately have the absolute right to reject vehicle for up to six months under consumer legislation (if it is not exactly as described).

Good luck.

Sounds to me these were ordered wrongly and not build errors.
Cruise I always on the stick unless superceeded.

Yup mine actually turned out to be the dealer ordering the wrong thing rather than the factory building it wrong. They never actually admitted that but equally they never contested that it was their responsibility to sort it.
