T7 infotainment screen gone blank

Hi all,

We have a T7 Ocean diesel delivered new in April 2025.

Apart from some initial problems of a discharged main battery (which appears to be fixed : fingers crossed) we suffer increasingly often from an infotainment screen which doesn't light up when the ignition is switched on. It stays blank whilst a series of warning messages appear on the driver's screen (behind the steering wheel) to say that various functions aren't working (emergency call, driving aids such as road-sign recognition, ...). And without the infotainment screen we have no radio, no Satnav, no heater controls, no parking sensors, no rear camera, etc.

We took the van to a local VW commercial vehicle centre who did a software update which appeared to fix the problem at first but not for long.
After reading some threads for similar problems on T6's I tried holding the screen's on/off button down for 15 seconds or so which initially succeeded in bringing the screen back to life but the problem has got worse in recent weeks to the point where the infotainment screen is always blank and can't be revived.

Needless to say we have booked an upcoming rendez-vous at the VW centre but in the meantime I would love to know if anyone else has had this problem on a T7 ?

Thanks

Steve

PS please don't ask what software version I have : I need the infotainment screen working to be able to read it .... !

I know you’ve probably tried this but when I had a similar issue I wasn’t holding the power button for long enough, I held it for about 30 seconds and you see the screen go completely black, as in the backlight goes off too. That fixed it for me.

I think there might be a soft reboot and a hard reboot on the power button hold

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try in the next couple of days and let you know.
That said, the screen is already totally black as if switched off or without power supply but I'll give it a try.

Hi
Tried holding down the power button for a long time. The infotainment screen still stays stubbornly off. We did notice though that 3 of the 4 warning symbols which have been appearing on the driver's screen (no road sign recognition etc) went out. Just left with the warning that no emergency call is available which I guess is some progress !
We're taking the van back to the VW commercial vehicle centre tomorrow, I'll let you know what they come up with.
Cheers
Steve

May be related to the pig’s ear of a mess that VW software currently is.
I am still trying to get my battery management issue sorted with a van centre that doesn’t have a clue.
2 other van centres have said that they needed to replace the control unit before the SW would upload into the van.
Faults with mine are escalating, now the satnav and phone connectivity options aren’t being displayed as well as whenever the car restarts getting an “electric cable is connected” notification (with bong) on the screen behind wheel.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
Our T7 also had the battery management issue. It was fixed back in June by a Swiss VW dealer after coming to our aid when the van broke down while camping high up the Alps. They replaced a faulty sensor which apparently wasn't correctly measuring the charge going to the respective batteries. Can't give more details than that, I'm a mechanical engineer not electrical

To get back to the thread here's the latest news of our blank infotainment screen :
The van went back to VW on Monday.
They phoned today to say that the problem is now fixed after replacing the "radio module" which apparently is connected to the calculator and feeds power to other parts (a bit like Heineken) including the USB-C ports which effectively hadn't been working recently (I had forgotten to mention those in my long list of associated bits which stop working when the screen goes blank).
Again I can't guarantee the logic of such stuff but if it solves the problem then that's good enough for me. And identifying the problem, obtaining the part needed, ordering and fitting it, all in the space of 2 days is pretty impressive in my view.
We're picking up the van on Friday. Fingers crossed all's ok, if not you'll be the first to know ...
Bonne soirée.

Thanks for the info on the voltage sensor - I’ll pass that onto the techs as they say they are replacing the charging module (which my or may not contain the sensor).

Hi
Just a quick update to say that the infotainment screen is still working fine after several weeks of use so the replacement of the radio module appears to have cured the problem.

Had a black screen on mine for the first time a couple of days ago, sounds like I have the start of the same problem
