Check rear earthing , I know the T5 had issues with the rear earth points literally rotting (from memory they are behind the rear lights, look for corrosion , check continuity etc)

Edit: Generally a brown wire for VW

There may be additional ones in rear quarter

Will check that out, thanks.
It didn’t do it for over a year, but now alarm goes off when parked and pings the warning when driving!!
So frustrating.

Dit you change the tailgate lock too or not? If the micro switch in the lock is faulty, you will most likely have no error codes.
Do you have a MFD where you see that the tailgate is open, on the instrument cluster?
Does the bootlight go out if you close the tailgate?

Hi
Yes the MFD shows open as the motor stops at the first position and doesn’t pull closed. Then randomly kicks in when ever.
Yes changed the lock as that’s what people said it would most probably be.
Been to three independent and the stealer. But without a code hard to find. Just seem to be throwing money at it with no solutions.

Anyone else had similar?
We had the same thing and it wasn't the lock at fault because I was able to isolate and test. It also wasn't the micro switch because the panel knows when it's shut, so I think it is perhaps the module which controls the lock, which I believe is behind the rear trim panel somewhere. I decided that was much to difficult to remove without damaging the many trims that need to come off. So although not the best solution, I unplugged the lock mechanism and used a wire from the cigarette light to power it manually until it was in the fully closed position. Then left it unplugged and refitted the trim over it. You can now slam the boot shut like a normal one now with no soft close and it is fully pulled in.

Does it show closed on the MFD? Because I tried to get this situation but because the tailgate wasnt showing as closed the alarm goes off!

Thanks for your reply, I’m at my wits end

OK, off the top of my head, and you may disagree.
There are no codes because everything electric/electronic checks out.
So this could be a mechanical fault. The microswitch is not being triggered to activate the soft close and the MFD tailgate indicator.
When closing tailgate, if you also push it inwards over the centre bottom of the tailgate, what happens?
If the soft close works and MFD shows closed then something is stopping the mechanism activating the microswitch correctly with sufficient force.

This Post 6 on the T6 forum mentions some adjustments you can make.

My one did show closed on the mfd, so yours is a different fault. It sounds like your one is possibly more to do with the closed micro switch or wiring to it instead then.

What happens if you push on the outside of the door? Does it then latch? It looks to me as if the soft close isn't able to grab the door latch. So it could just be a case of altering the position of that???

Had this issue, the lock had had water in it at some point, cleaned it and relubricated it all good now.
Read the start of this thread last week, went away at the weekend and lo and behold we had exactly the same trouble on Sunday morning after a wet night. Joy. Boot lid continually trying to re close, alarm going off randomly and warning of open boot while driving. Before we left I noticed a bit of water in the boot lock mechanism (the receiving bit, not the boot lid itself) and paper towelled it. The intermittent warning stopped after driving for about half an hour and the issue hasn't come back. Really interesting to read yours was damp related Nick. I'll keep an eye on it. As to how moisture got into the lock mechanism...

The water in mine came from a couple of coax cables I have coming off the roof and into the van through through the tailgate, rerouted the cables slightly and no problem since.
