For reasons best known only to me, I knocked the polariser filter off my dashcam and it fell down the passenger side of the dreaded gap between the dash and the windscreen .
What are the chances of being able to find it and to recover it? An easy job, or am I as well just leaving it where these things go to die?
I'm on the search to get the dashboard gap seal trim......... a great example of closing the stable door when the horse has bolted!

If you know roughly where it fell, a single strand of twin n earth wire made into a hook you maybe lucky with some blind fishing.

I (my daughter) lost a pencil down there. The pencil was worthless, but I didnt' want to have rattling noise for the foreseeable future.

I've managed to pull it out using a big sheet of paper, folded in half, inserted it with the fold down, holding it by the open sides. So the sheet looks like a " V " shape and I 've used it to scoop the gap. Lot's of trying and adjusting, near successes.... but at the end it worked.
If I remember correct, I've also pushed down the sheet slightly so that the " V " becomes like a " U ", easier to scoop things.

Good Luck!

So the drop isn't that far then. I had assumed it went down to the floor pan. Good to know.

I dropped a gas canister handle in the gap behind the water tank. Can’t get it.
Really makes no difference to my life whatsoever….apart from the niggling OCD thought…

Well assuming its a calorgaz bottle you will need it or another to exchange.

To those that don't know. That gap is used on the T5/5.1 to secure the bottom of the cloth VW windscreen cover that hooks over the sun shades and reversing mirror. The cover has a rolled over bottom hem that is pushed into that slot.

And a very useful gap it is. I tidies up the dash table-top area and gives a great sense of space when camping

Well, great news. After taking an online course in Gynecology, I managed to retrieve the filter. Expert use of duct tape, a chopstick and crushed finger tips, retrieved the little f*cker.
Happily, the dash trim arrived today, so that's tomorrow's job sorted

Ah, so that is how you fix the bottom of windscreen cover! After all these years leaving it hanging. Can’t use the slot anyway as I have sealed it with a small diameter rubber tube.

Really? Well I never.
