Chaps,

I've been struggling for a while now with what I assumed was a rear wheel bearing problem.

V noisy at speed. Several attempts to pinpoint the cause proved fruitless.

Finally the issue is solved.
Distorted tyres. I assume caused by winter hibernation.

Beware.
Pod. (200 Sterlings poorer).

Thats why the fabrication date is marked on the tyre .
Best to change tyres afther a few years even if the profile looks ok
Have to look up how many years the lifetime actually is but on general people don't check tyres enough , noting personal hey Pod;)

funny you should say that, mine developed an annoying steering wobble a few weeks ago. tracked to an oval shaped tyre with a flat spot. Tyres were dated 2008.

put the spare on, spare was dated 1999!

Getting 4 new boots next week (would have been sooner, but someone turned non-working reversing lights into a non-starting van!)

I was told some time ago by a trusted tyre person that rotating tyres helps the tyres give longer life. Sitting on the rear just rotating effects the sidewalls. Where as the fronts get worked and as such don't suffer the cracks. So rotate front to back give longer life and vice versa. I'm sure a WWW search would confirm or deny these suggestions.

Depends on the milage you do compared to layup time.
At 20,000 miles/ year I don't bother and where I go and how I drive then I think the tyre walls get a good workout anyway.:thumb
