Tyre pressure - front left alert

Here’s a thing - every so often, we get a tyre pressure alert for the front left. (‘22 plate Ocean, just the standard tyre pressure alert). I’ll check the tyres, and sure enough, it’ll be down at 50 psi, and the front right has stayed at 54.

I don’t think it’s happening quickly enough to be any sort of slow puncture, and there’s no regularity between occasions… so my working hypothesis is that the front left takes more impact due to prevalence of pot holes in the wonderful Sussex roads.

Does that stack up, do you think?

Swap tyres L to R and see if it still drops pressure.

Whatever the cause, it is still losing air pressure.

What size tyres do you have?

We’ve got 17” inch wheels (Woodstock) - if it had been thicker ones, I’d have been more conscious of the potholes etc.

I would be looking for a screw stuck in the tread, its quite easy to get one that only leaks a bit sometimes.

can spray soapy water around it to see if it bubbles if leaking

Most likely is a screw or nail that maybe only leaks when in contact with road surface so depending how far you drive or how often you stop with the object in contact with road surface depends how quickly the pressure drops.

could be the valve too.

Could also be a poor seal of the tyre on the rim . A bad seal often shows as a VERY slow puncture

could be the valve too.
I had the same, very slow and no one seemed to be able to find the leak, after it wore out the new tyre and valve was fine. the front passenger does seem to loose more than the rest.

Yes we had similar.

The central valve component just needed to be tightened....special tool available from Halfords,/EuroCarParts/ebay/Amazon about £5.

Old basic check of valve core is a bit of saliva/spit on it and if it bubbles up put a new core in. Soapy water if adverse to spit.

I had something similar in December with one tire but it went away of its own after a few cycles of topping off the pressure and resetting the monitor. It's a mystery why it went away but I assume it was either the valve that didn't close properly and now does or there was more moisture in that tire that is now gone.

We had an ABS sensor fault that started with a tyre pressure warning. Ours is a 2016 California Ocean. Hopefully this won't be the problem you have, but the solution, alas, was a new ABS sensor. I
understand that it's the ABS sensor that reports the tyre pressure problem. Could be an intermittent problem with the sensor. According to our local VW garage faulty sensors are more common than you would hope.

Similar happened - took to local tyre place. They checked - no leak but there was a bit of corrosion on the aluminium around the bead of the tyre. They removed the tyre, cleaned the wheel up and its been fine since. Although I'd hope thats not the case with your van as its almost new!

Had the same problem on the LF.

I went through a denial phase thinking it was a sensor error. I went through a procrastination phase thinking how unfortunate I was to have a slow leak. Finally, I went into a panic phase driving to the repair centre hoping to avoid roadside assistance.

My tyre pressure sensor remains quietly waiting.
