Van rolling backwards

Hi. I have had my 2019 DSG Beach rolling backwards two days running into other cars. Anyone else had this ? Once it was on the flat and the next it did roll down hill. It was left in Drive and (manual) handbrake was on - albeit not as tight as it might be. Slightly worried about leaving it anywhere now in case it takes off. I have to park it on the road. I have put a brick under the wheel but obviously not the optimal solution

I alway use park and handbrake, as the handbrake being cable could expand with heat in hot climate and cause slight rolling. In any case have your hand brake checked out as the rachet should hold once pulled hard.

It should NOT be left in D rive. Only in P ark as this locks the gearbox and drive train.

The handbrake , if not applied properly, can allow the vehicle to move as the pads and discs cool down.

Question about park mode and key? I can only take out the key when in park on my 2015 beach. Which seems a good safety feature. Has it changed on newer vehicles?
I don’t think this has changed. I could not take my ignition key out when in D. 2019 Ocean.

Nor our '21 Coast, or any other auto I've ever driven, from an '84 Nissan micra, through a couple of Omegas, a Jag, 2 golfs, and several Volvo FH...

I have a 2019 DSG Beach. I can’t take out the key unless it is in Park. As others have said this is standard for “most” Automatics.

@ahjury can you add some more detail based on the responses regarding the key removal from the ignition/ fact that it can’t be removed whilst in gear (unless ”P” is selected)
presumably your vehicle was parked with the ignition off ? ( keys out) ?

My '19 Beach had a recall related to the handbrake, maybe worth checking yours has had all the recalls done?
