VW Bike rack extension for 4th bike - help needed

Hi, need a bit of help with one of these. When I loosen it, the sprung clips don't open much, if I continue to loosen the nut at the end pings off. It looks like the handle end should unscrew, but I can't shift it - soaking in WD40 tonight to see if that solves it.

Can anyone help? Does it unscrew the handle end or is it just the bolt end? I'm clearly doing something wrong.

Definitely the handle end that unscrews.

Once sorted, I'd get some loctite or similar on the nut end... Don't want undoing by accident.

Problem is water collects in the knobs and they rust, the spring clips also need oiling so they do not stick. So take all the knobs off and give them a thorough greasing. My locking knob seized and had to be replaced.

Yes indeed... the perennial problem with Cali's... Steel against aluminium... corrosion.

You can't beat a good greasing
