VW bike rack - MTB with fat tyres - straps won’t go round

any tips on how to safely transport bike with fat tyres on the VW bike rack pls?

the plastic strap things just are not quite long enough - I can just about get it into the first click, but then it’s really hard to remove the wheel (because the wheel pushes the connector out)

The bike has 2.8” tyres (but at some point might go for fatter ones

my planned solution is to use some nylon ratchet straps but perhaps someone has a better solution??

On my TT bike with 80mm deep wheels I need to use some toeclip straps. If you can remember them from the days before clip in pedals.

ordered a couple of the thule ones. They don’t fit on my vw rack (on the tailgate) so have been returned and will use ratchet straps or cycle toe straps instead. shame as would have been good. They were for a thule towbar mounted rack
