VW Genuine Tailgate awning - any good?

Hi - has anyone got the vw made tailgate awning? Wondering how easy it it is to fit and how useable and useful it is?

I thought it seemed like a nice idea until I read a few posts and realized when it is on you can’t secure the van. Seems obvious, but in my opinion renders it pretty useless.

We purchased one secondhand, it’s very quick to install and fits in the chair storage pocket in the tailgate, 100% waterproof as designed as shower / toilet cubicle with a removable internal divider; However would say it’s overpriced in comparison to alternatives and only worth paying £100 - 150 for one. so perhaps better to look for new non-vw alternative as would work out better value.

I quite liked the look and idea of it however I ended up with a Outdoor Revolution Cayman Tail from the club. Has more room, multiple configurations, can be used on the side, back or standalone and I can close the tailgate too. VW one just seemed a lot of money for what it was.

Someone at the Denmark meet won a VW one in a raffle, but sold it straight on which didnt inspire me with confidence.

Tailgate awnings and campsites

We are looking for a tailgate awning for the Beach to support our slidepod etc. We don't want to spend a fortune but would prefer a driveaway. Something that has a rear or side door but won't be a problem on the paintwork. Reimo seem to do a good one but it doesnt seem to be drive away...
