VW T25

A friend is having problems with the roof on her T25. It's very difficult to open and she needs to prop it up with a stick. I haven't had a chance to see it but doing a bit of research it could be the strutts but I am no expert. I have been a member of the VW Owners Club for over 11 years and always amazed at the expertise of the members anyone got any ideas?
