Welcome message from a confused wannabe California owner

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to buy a California Ocean in the coming months. I thought it would be straightforward. A big mistake and now I am confused!

Firstly, VW don't seem to be taking orders for new vehicles. They have not responded to my messages asking why. Their dealers contradict each other. Putting aside the delay in getting an order placed, if there is a another problem with their diesel emissions what does this mean for their nearly new vehicles?

Secondly, I want to buy the most environmentally friendly vehicle. Yet the debate around whether to buy a diesel or petrol version is confused. Who do you believe?

Do you also consider to buy secondhand?
Hard to say which engine is the most environmentally friendly vehicle. I am no expert in this technical issue/discussion however I try to drive moderate, in no rush, less horsepower...

Firstly VW have temporarily stopped deliveries to adjust emissions but it seems now sorted. I would suggest contacting Chris Evans at Liverpool Van centre or their Preston branch as they have always given straight answers. Other may be able to recommend certain dealers.
As for petrol v diesel -- Petrol versions give out excessive CO2. Diesel Euro6 compliant are better but require the vehicle to be driven to clear the DPF . Not a problem is used for reasonably longer journeys. All new diesels even cars have to do this too and that applies to all manufacturers. Some on this forum can give better advice - GrannyJen WelshGas and Loz plus many others. No matter what the California is just the best IMHO.

Why rush - when in a California its all about the journey and this IMHO should be as relaxed as the stops at the destinations. For that reason I chose the 150 manual as it can return excellent MPG (Mine 39.5 after 4200 miles) and is more than powerful enough to rarely leave 6th gear on a Motorway cruising at just legal speeds. If you travel a lot and great distances then the much better MPG over a 204 DSG for example is going to save a lot of money that can be spent on wine ;-)

The petrol v diesel debate is confusing because of the various factors are a bit contradictory, the answer depends on how you drive & how much you drive & which gas you want to minimise, etc.

Read the very long thread on why new vehicles aren't being registered & it will all be clearer, if not exactly clear as no-one really knows yet.

I drive a 204 dsg and it returns around 35mpg. I dont drive like a snail, as I don't really like driving and want to get to my lay over asap. But which model to pick depends on your needs. As to being green, forget it. If we all purchased push bikes the government would find a way to screw us on the green issue.F

Seems that VW have now sorted out the production stop which would indicate that it would be getting sales details through to the Dealers this week.
I'd say give it a few days and then start to contact Dealers again.
For a vehicle the size and weight of a Cali Diesel remains the most economical and with the emission level upgraded now it will be the lowest in cost also in Green Taxation terms. TSi VED is higher than TDi

It seems that petrol T6s won't be available after this coming summer!

German websites quote the end of production as August I think.

Most of us are confused on a daily basis with events emanating from Wolfsburg so join the club

Type of Cali engine is a simple choice: Diesel as it is likely that there will not be a petrol variant in the near future.

Configuration will depend entirely on your driving style and the places / time of year you wish to be camping.

The Euro6 is about as clean as possible as it uses AdBlue to minimise harmful emissions. This is now available either at larger filling stations on the pump or at many outlets in bottles.
