What’s a good hard wearing paint for a trailer frame?

I’ve got a home built dinghy trailer which appears to be yellow brush painted box section steel. The paint has a few chips. I’d like to keep the rust away but not too bothered about a perfect finish. Happy to use brushes or rollers.

I’ve read about external gloss paint, polyurethane paint, red oxide, and now I’m confused.

Anyone recommend specific primer and top coat products that won’t flake away in 5 mins?

Thanks!

Hammerite, smooth or hammered finish.

Thank you. I’d heard that Hammerite have changed their formula recently and it isn’t as good. But I’ll have another look around. Cheers.
