What are these please ?

After hiring Californias for a while we finally took the plunge and bought our own last year. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about all their many features but I just keep on discovering more - not least through this forum.
Anyway, in preparation for our first weekend away soon I was just tinkering and came across these under the cutlery drawer. The little knurled wheel moves the plastic assembly in and out but I’ve no idea what they do. They are marked “L” and “R” respectively. Any ideas ?
