What is the T6 Awning / roof rail for exactly

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what the awning rail along the top of each side of my T6 Ocean is for? I’m not taking the mickey; it’s a serious question!

Having just bought an second-hand awning (from someone who didn’t want one on his T6 Ocean), with the intention of mounting it on the left, so we’re shaded on both sides, I have discovered that the awning is mounted on a bracket above the awning rail. So, what exactly is the awning rain for then?!

It is for attaching an awning to, such as a drive-away...

Some very simple awnings attach by sliding the top semi solid sausage type (bound to be a correct name for this ) part into and sling the rail, from rear towards the front. Then use 2 poles and guy ropes. Results in sin/rain shaed LHS. Hope that’s an answer that works for you.

For most awnings you’ll need a kador strip to attach to the van (unless you sling straps across the roof and peg on the other side. The channel of the awning rail on T6 / T6.1 are often wider than the standard 6mm kador. What we do, is attach with a dual kador with 6mm and 4mm strips, as you shove both into the vans channel, and offer up the 6mm kador on the other side for the awning (or tarp - we use an Outwell tarp if we need in the left side),

The nearside one we use for an Outwell tarp in summer to keep the side cool. Doubles as some storage and on some sites an extra width to keep kids balls away. Offside we use to attach our drive-away awning with a figure of 8 kador strip. Choice is yours - lots of aftermarket bits you would use for. More so on caravan websites.

Awning rail on both sides is for attaching Kador fixing awnings.
Bolt on Awnings were an optional extra which don't require the fixed rail to be removed.
