What kind of gas bottle and what us weird black wedge?!

Hi,I'm 2 weeks in and have manic job so not had a chance to even read the manual sat in the driveway. Also I am not the most tech minded person. So, I'm used to caller bottles that you fill, but this clearly isn't? What type of gas please and where is best place? Are they refillable? And what on earth is the weird black wedge shaped piece of foam?!

The correct cylinder is a GAZ 907 I believe. If you are crossing the channel note that they are about 60% cheaper in France (Leroy Merlin being one of the cheapest sources) . UK suppliers charge a crazy price for them.

Go -Outdoors in Westerhope (just off the A1) sell the 907 bottle but the price is high. I have yet to research a cheaper stockist but buying second hand seems to be a good way to get hold of one as well. They are refillable and many camping shops offer this service. Don't forget to take some time off and plan some trips.

Thank you so much! My 11year old and I are going to Cornwall at half term so I'm trying to get clued up (slightly!!) before then. Thank you fellow northerner for the westerhope go outdoors tip. That's one thing sorted, and I think it has a regulator there as its brand new. I'd better double check that though!!

I'm not an expert yet but know the Camping Gaz 907 is expensive to buy first time around. So I managed to find empty bottles for sale at Towsure.com for £11.94. I think to fill up its about a further £27-£30. So much cheaper than buying new. 907 is certainly recommended when travelling through France as it is readily available.
So far I've got 2 empty gas bottles, sleeping bags and a driveaway awning. All I need now is my Cali which I'm picking up 1st March. Not sure I'm doing this the right way round!!!!!

Or go to your local recycling centre and blag an empty 907 bottle from them for a donation to the totters charity. They always have some in a cage. Then the refill is cheap.

Frustratingly, the fine gentlemen at our local recycling centre say:

"We are not licenced to sell you gas bottles - even if empty."​

Offers of a 'donation' rather than 'cash for a sell/buy transaction' were met with the same response.

I guess it depends on where you live.

For those new to the 907 Gaz bottle remember to keep the screw in plug /small handle on the bottle otherwise you will be charged about £4 for a new one when you exchange the empty.

We use a 907 as our main gaz tank and have the smaller 904 as a spare. I have simple screw on burner which fits neatly onto the top and means I can use the 904 outside of the van for frying or any other greasy cooking whilst the cleaner cooking is done inside.
A 907 refil cost me £25 from Go Outdoors last week and lasts us about 6-8 weeks living in the Cali.
Btw, if you have not read the instructions yet, it's worth pointing out that the collar attaching the regulator valve to the shut off valve has a left hand thread.
You really should read the instruction booklets though. It's a totally riveting read for any Cali nerd and pretty much essential to get the most out of you new van.

Where do you think the Wholesalers and Retailers store them. In a cage in the yard. A cage to stop theft, but outside in all weathers, so your shed will be fine.

I do exactly the same! And since they are unlikely to both run out at the same time they act as an emergency backup for eachother. Well, that's the theory...
