Underslung LPG and Water tanks. One, none or both?

Canvassing forum opinion.

We have a 2WD T6 Beach. We use a Cadac double burner, sometimes a Grillo Chef, a Kampa Geyser hot water heater, and an Alpkit Brewkit as a kettle. All of these are powered from 440g Coleman EN417 cannisters 440g via a double cannister regulator.

We use a 23l wheeled container for water, and a couple of other smaller containers for hand washing, and drinking water. We use CLs in the UK, so provide our own facilities, for cooking, washing up, and showering. We typically refill the 23l container 2 or 3 times over a weekend with 4 of us.

I end up with a lot of space taken up by water containers, and gas cannisters rattling around in the van.

GAS
I'm considering an underslung LPG (probably fitted by Propex), brought out to an external quick release connector near the rear bumper. I have 2 doubts.

1. Dwindling UK LPG filling stations. DIY transfer from a normal cylinder as a last resort is controversial and unsafe.
2. Eurotunnel tightening their policies and disallowing small fixed tanks.

My much cheaper alternative is to try and make space for one of the small refillable portable bottles in the van, but that still isn't ideal, no drop vent etc, and a faff to get out and connect each time. Or just continue as I do now.

Any other suggestions?

WATER
The LPG gas tank goes behind the spare wheel, which means I wouldn't be able to fit a 70l water tank there. So the other option is the 48l double tank here. I'd want fill and a pumped outlet hidden near the rear bumper, so somehow need to get a pump installed in the tank.

I've also been patiently wating for 2 years for this collapsible water tank with trolley to become available.

Anyone fitted either water or gas tanks and regretted it, or not used them afterwards?

Any other considerations? I've already told my insurance about the solar panels, lithium battery, etc, with no issues or surcharge there.

To update this thread, we had a 6kg usable underslung lpg tank fitted with 3 external outlets, and it has been brilliant.

Just got back from 12 nights away in warm France where we cooked 10 nights, boiled water for washing up and cups of tea, and used our Joolca hottap on 3 nights. It is quicker to plug in the 2 cook pro to the quick release connector than to assemble the Alpkit we used to use. We got a kettle with a heat exchanger which boils just as quickly as the Alpkit.

Used 1.7kg based on filling on day one, and refilling day 12. I imagine we’d use perhaps double that if it was a coldish UK holiday instead.

We would have probably taken 8 canisters with us otherwise and had to juggle them around. The underslung tank runs the 8kw Joolca, the 2.5kw Cadac Grillo Chef, and the 2 x 2kw rings on the Cadac 2 cook pro simultaneously with no problem.

Still not completely happy with water storage. We’re using 2 Sea2Summit 20l Watercell X bags.

We have a 12L underslung lpg tank on our T6, conversion not Cali. Very pleased. However not too sure about long term availability of autogas lpg. Probably won't disappear completely as some specialist sites should keep it for campers, motorhomes and others. At the present LPG seems to be fairly easy to find in the EU. Home refills are a no go for me, too dangerous and almost certainly not insurable.

We have a 15L underslung lpg tank. It fits where the rear differential would go on a 4 wheel drive. So if yours is 4 wheel drive you can't have an underslung tank. Ours was fitted as part of our conversion by Autohaus in Minehead Somerset. Brilliant bit of kit. Most recent fill up was £11 for 10L.

do you really need that much water and gas?

We have a Primus Tupike double burner stove. A campingaz 904 lastss about 10 days

we use a 5 litre water bottle (spring water) and about 3 or 4 2 litre drinks bottles (washed out) and fill up as needed. Two go in the space at the back in front of the storage box (2 seater beach) and the others in the front doors.

cheap easy and faff free.

if we are camping away from an official campsite then we might cook etc near a water source if we’re on the move.

Maybe worth researching into the removal of lpg from petrol stations before you commit.
