Where do you keep your cali ?

It's raining heavily outside and I feel almost guilty about my brand new Cali being out there but sadly we don't have a garage. I somehow imagine all you cali owners having large double garages with your cali safety tucked in there along with you vintage car collections (probably something to do with the price tag of a cali) So it would be interesting to know where you keep your cali !

Out on the road. Have always hated it but we love our house and don’t have a drive so it is what it is. It’s also the opposite side of the road, and fairly busy so we rely on the local car wash (in normal times) and it isn’t so easy to fiddle around with accessories and general tinkering without drawing lots of attention. Also bumps the insurance right up. I make it sound like a nightmare, it really isn’t, still feels like a privilege!

In a rented underground parking spot outside the historical limits of my 14th century neighborhood, where there are almost no parking spaces and barriers keep most vehicles out. 10 min. by bike or 5 stops by city bus.

Not expensive. I found a large space with plenty of room to maneuver in the Olympic Village that was built for the 1992 Barcelona games. Back then it was the fashion for every new flat to have it's own parking space, but nearly 30 years later many people who live in Barcelona have given up having a private car because public transport is excellent and driving a car in the city is slow, aggravating and expensive. The result is that in the Olympic Village there is a glut of cheap parking spaces for rent.

My neighborhood is beautiful, sunny (my ancient flat now runs on solar power), and it's 15 min. walking from the opera house where I worked for 25 years.

I’m in a similar situation to @clarinetbcn , we live in a flat in the centre of San Sebastián, few places have their own parking and it’s mainly pedestrian streets so my van lives 15m walk away. The new van will live in a rented garage though, even if that means a bike ride to get it. Around here, touch parking is the norm, ie you just reverse til you hear a crunch. I’m not precious lol but the Cali will live underground

I don't blame you, I used to live in Lyon, France and bumper bashing into a parking space was the norm, it was shocking to me

it sounds like you need a bull bar on the front and towing hitch at the back

We don’t have a garage our Cali lives on the drive alongside our Toyota. We would like a garage but we love the house and the area so wouldn’t move just to get a garage. In our experience there are many people with garages who use them as storage areas and don’t keep their cars in them anyway.

So true. We have a double garage and it houses one 45 year old car and a load of junk which might be "useful" someday if I keep it long enough. The Cali and my daily driver are outside on the drive. They get a wipe down about every six months to remove the developing green mould from the window surrounds, but otherwise don't seem to suffer.

If the weather is bad for a while (which it was the best part of January and during February) I feel a bit sad to leave the van outside. But the garage is not high enough and also the garage is used as my workshop and garden tool storage area.

I toyed with the idea of a carport. We would have enough space, but the cost is a bit more as what I can affort for the moment. So the camper has to survive the snow, rain, wind, bird droppings etc. Like everybody else I am not using the van a lot, but I still wash it in the same time intervals to get rid of the dust and bird droppings.

Apparently the best is :

Outside under a Car Port - to allow air circulation

Outside - away from trees

Garage - but large, well ventilated with active ventilation and the vehicle should be Dry before entering.

The worst solution is a heated and poorly ventilated garage. Accelerated corrosion especially after driving on salty roads in winter. The best solution would be a carport.
For my part it is on the drive, at the edge of a tree with all the problems of falling leaves and the special gifts of pigeons and other birds.

I love that you park it in front of your window so you can keep your eye on it! We've invested in some CCTV, it alerts me if it detects any movement but I still check it regularly anyway, first thing I do when I wake up it is all still very new

We’ve had our 2 years, still get excited just looking at it! I still look out at it first thing in the morning last thing at night and if I wake in the middle of the night!

They are such a special vehicle, I'll probably be the same in 2 years. I've only had the van 8 days and it's fantastic, a real game changer for us
