Re: hook up......in general over past 15 years camping sites with electric hook ups nowadays tend to have more than adequate toilet blocks with free showers and hair dryers. So why dry yr hair in the van? why not stop in cheaper tent pitch side with no electrics and throw a 2 second tent next to the van?

Well it would seem that those who voted seem to use the California as the designers intended.
Still cannot work out the discrepancy between Mains Only and Leisure Batteries +\~ Mains though.
Well done everybody. Enjoy your California's.:thumb:thumb

I've never used the mains hookup unless I'm charging during the winter months.
Use everything else though.
Tend to use upstairs bed even through some historic weather!
Just back from 8 nights in France, all wild camping.
So nice.

Just back from some time with family down in Cornwall enjoying the spring weather (just been blown back north with rain all the way) Nice to see how others use their Cali's. We're only about 18 months in with Rose and still lots to learn (~50 nights away?). Our usage to date:
- usually battery only, and hook-up only if prolonged winter camping or short-drives on a longer trip
- tailgate chairs and outside table used frequently, often for prepping and cooking smelly stuff
- bike rack occasionally, this time for all four bikes but often for day-trips too.
- roof and rear seat beds - always (2 adults + 2 kids)
- aux. heater - definately! (getting very soft these days)
- fridge & cooker - always (key purchasing decision)
- awning - often, usually to provide a dry spot from the rain to extract kids from wet-weather gear before getting into Rose
- turning front seats - almost always, even useful for the hot drink after cold winter walk - actually had 8 people inside one time...(admittedly 4 were kids...)
- driveaway awning - only three times. Lots of faf getting it put up which detracts hugely, but useful for outside storage if taking bikes and basing from one site for a few days.
- freshwater - only for washing and basic cooking prep. use two 1.5l bottles under sink for drinking water.
- wastewater - yes but not extensively. smelly stuff disposed of in campground facilities if not wild camping
- internal cupboards - have mostly got semi fixed locations for all the "stuff" - longer trips work better for some reason than short ones (perhaps we are forced to be more organised and restrict what comes with?!)

Definitely loving having the Cali.
