windscreen Replacement rant

Too late the new screen got hit & cracked after only 2 days, got to go through the whole process again...
Feel for you on that, I had a screen replaced twice until they got it right (squeaking on dash) a week after the last fit I got a bullseye on it from a truck just couldn't believe it. Had to go through it again.

I’ve had my windscreen replaced today by Auto Windscreens in Tunbridge Wells, after I booked it in with them last weekend.

The stone (a piece of tarmac) flicked up out of a ‘repaired’ pothole and the screen cracked immediately. The pothole merely had cold tarmac poured in to it and when driving back today I noticed none of the tarmac is left in the pothole and it’s just as large as before the ‘repair’. The hole was easy to spot as there were 2 cars parked by it with flat tyres!

Easy to book in, no upselling was tried and all in all an excellent service. The excess was £75.00. No squeaks or rattles on the way back down to Hastings and the auto wipers did their thing automatically too.

If you have a heated windscreen, check that too. After last replacement, only half of the windscreen defrosted… ‍♂️

They asked me about that when I booked it in. I don’t have the heated screen (I use the diesel heater to defrost :thumb)

Have you thought about claiming against council or other owner of the road. They will probably have a few claims from others.

I did consider that, but my previous attempt to claim for a new tyre, which was destroyed by a pothole, took 9 months. The county council make you upload pictures and all correspondence on to their own portal, you cannot email them direct or send physical letters. They only entertain correspondence via their chosen method, which is clunky and painfully slow to use and navigate. Every time I uploaded correspondence, they claimed not to have received it, or it was in the wrong format!. At the end of the 9 months they rejected my claim as too much time had elapsed since the incident.

After all that, I couldn’t be bothered to go through it all again.

I did re report the pothole, but the council advise that as it’s been ‘repaired’ it has to be treated as a new pothole, but after inspection does not meet their requirements for repair. Even though the ‘repair’ failed after a matter of days.

We know we drive on the left, but in Hastings we are forced to drive on what’s left of the road.
