Not had mirror damage but had had vehicles damaged elsewhere. Is the damage serious or cosmetic? Cosmetic damage could be covered over by those chrome mirror caps.

Hope you get it sorted ok, congratulations on the new baby :thumb

Yep, clipped mirrors with a motorhome in France and it cost a bomb. Swapped it all myself though and the guide on here was very useful for door card removal.

I did some neat reversing around a tree on Spanish campsite in Pyrenees last week, really nicely controlled distance from side of van using mirror and then wham...they don't like being pushed in the wrong direction by trees. Wrenched the bracket that connects the mirror to the van but needs complete unit apparently...getting fixed today, expecting about £325.

This happened to me last week on Skye prices are now £785 fitted and Painted by VW dealer ☹️

£600 quote from vw dealer today. Thank you to the motorhome driver I met in the south or France last week...

Hi all, just had my drivers side wing mirror shattered for the 3rd time. Motorhome on a narrow road again! Can someone please remind me how I access the correct parts as there seem to be so many variants. I have 2011 Blue California 180 Its an electrically folding-in one with the top half of the forward facing trim in body colour. Is there somewhere where I can just punch in the vehicle chassis number and get the right part nos?

I had someone (a VW T4) hit my mirror while driving the kids home from school last week. The plastic cap came off fully and the mirror luckily didn't break and was dangling from the electricity cable that heats the mirror. I was lucky because I could click everything back in place. I have however had the glass broken twice at other times. Once repaired bij VW and once by a random garage. Huge difference in price. Check that they use the right mirror though cause theres heated and non-heated versions.

Click on Google link below and then select year.
They normally come undercoated to be sprayed to match body colour.

Many thanks. Seems quite complicated but am reassured that they will check that I have the right part if I leave the VIN number with them.

We've had a few near misses especially from white van drivers. I've tried to source some wing mirror protectors seen on other vans but it looks like VW don't have such an accessory. If i'm driving down narrow lanes in Cornwall, for example, i tend to draw the mirrors in as I won't be overtaken and put them out when i hit the main road

Yes. I was parked in Le Havre doing some last
Minute shopping. A white van passed. I was I. A lay bye. The drivers mirror clipped mine and wrecked the casing. She paid despite me thinking I wouldn't hear from her again. It cost some £150. A lot less than a similar replacement on a BMW i3 I had - £1,000 plus!

I believe it would be illegal to drive with your offside wing mirror in the folded position. You need two operational mirrors and one has to be the offside mirror.

Thank you for your comments

I sometimes fold my mirrors in while driving with someone behind me with bad adjusted headlights.

OT
You can buy either the manual mirror part that snaps, or the electric motor for the electric foldable mirrors.

I replaced the part from my dad's T6 Multivan (your Caravelle), after a mirror to mirror hit.

You can buy this part:

Just a little tricky for compressing the spring. Used 2 or 3 big tie wraps to compress the spring to get the mirror apart.

It's with a local garage who has got the parts ID'd and ordered. Thankfully, I just need the mirror and the two bits of fairing, upper and lower. Fingers crossed for a reasonable price and minimal labour.

I think the main difficulty in replacement is to get the wires back through the component shown above..

I purchased a new heated glass & then carefully glued together using araldite , looks fine
