Hence the expression “mechanics’ cars” usually accompanied by an eye roll.
I hear/see a lot of the ‘expert’ home mechanics driving past our house with lowered suspension ,peppity pop exhausts, dodgy wheel camber, oversized alloys & non legal rally bulbs fitted.

I’ll confess, I don’t have a cali. But, I have a Shuttle which I’ve lightly converted with removable bed and kitchen pod. The only modification I’ve done apart from adding a diesel heater and leisure battery is to lower it 30mm to improve body roll. But I sought extensive advice, did loads of reading and only entrust her to a specialist VW indie. Great mechanic, lovely bloke, a bit “characterful” for some people’s tastes.
My earlier comment was really to highlight the imminent belief and my experience that mechanics rarely take proper care of their own cars.

Just keep the receipts and write out a service note, date time, mileage etc, staple the receipts to it. Done :cheers
Exactly what I do
Serviced every June regardless of mileage, oil (Opie Oils), Mahl or Bosch filters, oil, air, cabin & diesel, new sump plug. Takes a couple of hours but I know it’s been done properly.

Not a Cali yet but my T5 is serviced at my local garage and I couldn't be happier. Small village local garage with some clever guys. They still use all genuine VW stuff but you know wheels have been of and brakes checked /cleaned and so on. Tyre pressures checked, windscreen washer filled and wipers changed if needed. I don't know anyone with a VW that uses A1 Group (fomrlery Robinsons) in Norwich. We have an issue with the starter button on our 2019 Golf GT Est. Sometimes starts sometimes takes 3 presses. It's under VW warranty (came from Lookers in Newcastle). VW Norwich said Oct and no car avaiable. I told them wife community nurse so needed car - in that case Dec!!!! I've gone to Cookes in Fakenham - further away but friendly and immediately offered car early Sept and if it goes wrong in bewteen press button and they'd sort it with a car as well!! Car will be serviced etc in my village though.
