Water leak

hi all
I appear to have water getting into the inside of my 2012 beach cab area. The carpet on the floor the passenger side is soaking wet!!
Noticed this a few weeks ago but put it down to wet wellies. This is clearly now not the case!! Has any one else experienced this problem? All the windows were fully closed and the roof securely down.
I am having the roof repaired due to corrosion under warranty in a couple of weeks but I am struggling to see how this water could come from there!! Just out of 3 year warranty so vw won't help

Any thoughts appreciated

A known issue with T5s is water getting into the inner wing from around the A pillar area and pooling there. When there is enough there it gets into the footwell via a hole around (above and forward of) the doorstep area. Is your van parked with the front up a slope possibly?

We have had this in ours between the seats. VW garage had it back for a couple of days and ended up replacing window over kitchen , a job they needed to get specialists in for. They then tested it with water from every angle, it didn't leak . We have been away since and it was ok, but it didn't happen every time anyway so will wait and hope!

Do you have VW heavy duty floor mats, we have and the ones in our van wore through on the ridges which let water from the mat through to the carpet, worth a look?

The van is generally parked on a slope yes but with the front being down maybe I should try turning it round, not something I thought I would have to do though in a 30k van

Yeah I do have these mats but this is not the problem, I can see water coming out from the bottom of the plastic that sits over the front wheel below the dashboard. Must be the roof I think

I had an old escort that had the same problem - it could be a leak in the heater matrix or a leak in one of the rubber hoses/seals from the heater system?

The front wheel arches have an inner plastic skin with drain holes along the edge. If you look down the gap by the A pillar with a light shining up from the wheel, then these should be clear, but leaves etc can get into that space and stop the water drains out. Have a look.

My understanding is that parking ‘nose up’ is likely to make the problem worse.
This is the thread on the T4 forum I saw describing the issue. http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=249267&page=1
Some ideas there to check out.

Had same problem on my 2012 SE. Pax and drivers side had water dripping from bottom of dash onto the carpet covering the wheel arches. The windscreen seal was leaking and had to be rebonded. Took ages to find the problem, used a boroscope (endoscope) up behind the trim to follow the water trail.

I also have a wet carpet on the drivers side, water drips down from under the dash onto the wheel arch carpet and pools near the sticky out tab of the floor mat.

I've removed the end section of the dash and found pooling water on the plastic dash frame section, its dripping down from the A pillar cover. Tracking it further up I can see water trickling down the metal seam that the windscreen is fixed to (I have to press down/pull back the A pillar cover with blind to see this)

I'm thinking it's also a windscreen seal failure but my local van centre think it's the top front roof cover leaking down through the vehicle.

Unfortunately I don't know how the roof section is constructed but I can't see how the water is entering the top front cover and then breaching the windscreen seal?

I'm currently awaiting VW customer care to authorise a body shop fix, unfortunately my nearest body shop is 130 miles away in Sunderland.

I have a June 2016 ocean

I have had this exact problem in two of my previous cars. New hose in one case and a new matrix in another. Both were fixed, one under warranty one outside.

Concerning to hear that A T6 is porus. Mine is ok so far but I had a Volvo XC90 a few years ago that was letting so much water into the passenger foot well that passengers had to wear wellies. 2 inches on some occasions. We never did find out where it was coming from but when the electrics started playing up as well it was time to get shot.

Hope you get sorted @Leigh-R . Post the outcome.

I've just discovered exactly the same leak. Passenger side carpet wet, water leaking from behind the trim on the A post and running down the carpet.

So that's a couple of us with the same problem - so what is the problem, the front window bond?

My front windscreen is heated, I can't imaging the bother this will take to try to get fixed as the dealer has been very unhelpful to date.

My van is a Aug 2016, California Ocean, only 4,500 miles on the clock.

This is a long shot, and reflects my overall positive view on life that most problems have easy solutions to fix them but we just haven't found them yet, but it surprises me that this problem has only just manifested itself after six months.

If it were a material problem with your Cali I would have expected to see this as soon as a good rain fall happened after you took delivery, but after six months is it something else. I went outside and had a good look at the front door seal arrangements on my Cali. (It's been raining for the last two days)

Could it be that (don't shoot me!) the door has not been fully closed over a period? I only ask because I noticed that rain draining from the roof (when the door is not fully closed) drains down the "A" post onto the carpet of the wheel arch. If I am honest I am kind of hoping that this is your problem, coz its easy to fix (!)

Good luck, JW

It was purchased a few weeks ago second hand, but the previous owner had it garaged for about 3 months and had not noticed it. Alas, I've no way of knowing if it's been there since new, but suspect it has been.

Well I'm very happy to report that the problem with pooling water in the drivers foot well has been fixed.

The fault was found to be with the drain pipes entry into the vehicle leaking then running down the outside of the pipe.

My experience with my local van centre was very good and I was kept up to date with progress reports before during and after the repair from VW customer services.

Fixed = Peace of mind. :thumb

Good to hear that you had good service from your local van centre. Who was it ?

What van centre did you use?

My local van centre is Marshall Volkswagen Scunthorpe.
The remedial work was undertaken by claridges in Stockport.

Wet passenger side foot well 2018 California Ocean T6 with 4000s miles only.
Just noticed a very wet carpet under the passenger foot well mat. No obvious leaks in the cab or from the roof, the seat, dash and door card all dry.
Any ideas ?? Is this a common problem ?? Or will the local dealer be "unaware" .
thanks Alison.
