Roof bed ladder

Has anyone used the ladder from the club shop I would be interested to know as my son stood on my seat arm at the weekend and broke it. Feedback appreciated.

I have a maxx camp folding ladder which is very similar. I think they are great not only for accessing the top bunk but also for things like putting a topper on or getting leaves off the awning. Others have made their own specifically for getting up top and there is lots on the forum about that. Personally I went for the purpose built option even though they are expensive. Just for your info I tried the collapsible ladder you can buy for diy but found it just didn’t work. Just too big and clunky for me

Not ladders as such but this is what we use and a lot cheaper/easier to store than ladders - each to their own of course.

I bought the Maxxcamp which has precisely the same specifications except it is in one piece which folds in the middle.
The other difference is that I paid £40 more than the one now offered at the shop.
Having a ladder is a great advantage for us.

Do both seats have to be swivelled to use this? I don't usually swivel the drivers seat

You only need one seat swivelled for the ladder to be at the correct angle

Club Shop Ladder Review

Hi,

I think we're responsible for cleaning Nick out of the last of his new ladders.

We got it because Mrs White fell and broke her arm in the snow at the beginning of last month and whilst mostly mended, can't bear enough weight on it to pop up into the roof unaided.

So here are some pictures and comment ...

First thing I liked is that the ladder comes in it's own natty zip up bag.



This has a carry handle at one (short) end and two loops on one long side that you can clip over the headrests on the back seats of our Ocean.



Second is that it comes in two parts that slot together firmly so it stows away easily but only takes a second to put together





Third, it can slot between the two front seats without them having to be swivelled ...



And also can be put or left up when the bottom bunk is pulled out as a bed.



And it's strong with nice treads, with plastic feet and a hook top to latch onto the blind opening securely when in place.



And plenty strong enough for my weight (around 95kg).



So we would thoroughly recommend. Mrs White is delighted as she's always found it a big climb (she's under 5') to the master bedroom and says she feels so much more secure getting up and down with the ladder.

Further to @oryx white’s post above, we’ve just got ours. We’ve not actually camped with it yet, but have done some experiments on the drive at home.

For Mrs M the ladder moved about a bit too much when used as shown in the previous post (she’s not one for ladders!) so we’ve found it’s best for her used leaning sideways as shown below. The bottom is jammed up against the driver’s seat base, and to stop the top moving I have a strap which goes from the top rung to the strap above the passenger door. I have also wrapped some non-slip material around the top of the uprights to grip the roof opening better, and to prevent scratching.




For further security another strap holds the top to the bottom section, as I found when tightening the top strap it pulled the two sections apart 2 - 3 cm.



When packing away, the one of the straps can be used to keep the two halves together. The ends of the C shaped section that the two halves connect together with is quite sharp, a couple of pieces of old bicycle inner tube slipped over makes this safer.


The bag is quite useful to store other stuff, like our wheel mats.


All neatly packed away (parcel shelf in upper position)
