I have started to have this error pop up in the MFD. It started a month or so ago. I have since then driven 1200 miles around France on long journeys at motorway speed so shouldn’t be a regen issue. I have also given it a good ‘drive’ and with the revs held above 2000rpm.
The engine starts normally without an error. Once warm it sometimes goes to fast idle at 1000rpm with the error. Even after an hour of fast motorway driving it hasn’t gone away This is different to a regen cycle when the ‘A’ with the line through it lights up or any of the other reasons for it to disable itself and when regening you can hear the fuel pump sending the extra fuel in which it isn’t doing.

On other occasions it works perfectly normally. If you turn it off and restart it also works normally.
I know there are a multitude of parameters to prevent stop start functioning but they shouldn't lead to an error message. It has been consistently plugged into the mains/ on hook up for more than 24 hours and charging correctly so shouldn’t be a battery issue. I am going to scan it with VCDS when I get a chance but any suggestions?

As you say, lots of things... best take a look at the scan first before a 300 post speculation thread... :)

I had a good search through the forum (s) and it isn’t a fault I have seen reported. Given a fast idle condition non regen state I speculated it might narrow the options down. I’ll post any relevant bits of the scan. Might help someone else.

I was under the impression that regen was a T6 Euro6 only process.???

Much less frequent on the T5. Its a dpf thing.

Most problems that get talked about on T5 & T6 forums seem EGR related.

What error do you exactly see in your instrument cluster? Is it really an error, or just that the stop/start does not work?
You don't have a picture of the error?

I also have a 2014 140, so I’d be very interested in seeing a picture of the error. Stop/start on mine is sometimes disabled when using air conditioning in hot weather, but that doesn’t account for the fast idle.

MFD says error: stop-start.
It also then enables the vehicle status menu in the MFD when you scroll through the central menus which says “error : stop-start”.

It is not the crossed through ‘A’ which just indicates it doesn’t meet conditions to function. That is still coming up as expected when engine is cold or air con on high etc.

It must be a something throwing an error as it will clear if you restart.
But the other part of the odd behaviour is that it also sits at a fast idle of 1000 to 1100 rpm. This is faster than the regen idle which is more like 950-1000.
Normal behaviour is as you slow to a stop it holds the engine at just over 900 rpm until you come to a complete stop at which point it drops slightly below 900 after a second or 2.
By the way I have a manual.

I’ll try to get a photo and update with VCDS scan when I can get to the kit.

The higher rpm might be in the region of battery manager (if it is there on the "-" of the battery). Maybe a wire is cut.
You don't have anything stored near the battery that might have cut a wire or something?

There hasn’t really been anything in battery compartment but I will check the wiring as vcds seems to be pointing that way.

VCDS has shown an 01598 fault in drive battery voltage under ‘battery regulator’
003 mechanical failure - intermittent. And the same code under central elect j519 drive battery voltage 000 - intermittent.

There is another fault which is still in memory but doesn’t appear recent for barometric sensor p0105 manifold which was present a year ago on the last scan so I don’t think is relevant as this has only just started happening.3C6F848F-8696-41E1-8B51-D954629D0880.jpeg64721E9C-FB0B-4286-A32E-F45BE289E7D3.jpeg

Thank you. That is ‘signal to low’ (too?) rather than 003 mechanical failure or 000 - intermittent. I think it might be a battery voltage signal error. I need to have a look at the earth and also I believe there might be a feedback wire which might have come loose. I suppose ‘signal to low’ might be ‘signal to earth’

Do you have MOLL+ starter battery by any chance?

These are known to be faulty and are being replaced under warranty.

Were they fitted on the T5.1?

Wondering if its been changed?
.. Probably just the old battery failing in that case..

Not been changed AFAIK. Its a Varta. It is used daily and has never sat or gone flat. Batteries charged at least monthly. It certainly doesn’t show any signs of failing ie sluggish turn over, dimming lights on electrical demand etc. It doesn’t error when cold, only happens when up to temp. I’ll have a look at the terminal connections.

Why not disconnect both terminals and touch them together to properly discharge the monitor and then reconnect it and see if it re-profiles the battery over the next few days.

I am having a similar electrical issue on my 2016 Cali Coast. Got a Start/Stop error in the MDF and bluemotion is not functioning. Brought to my dealer, who said there is a 'lost connection with the body control module'. They did some preliminary voltage tests, which showed low/intermittent voltage but now want to charge me 600euro to investigate wires and try and solve connection issue. They also told me it could possibly be a faulty body control module, which may need to be replaced. Its 1 month out of warranty! Im beyond disappointed. Anyone heard of this before?

May not be of any relevance but my daughters Ford Focus had a Stop/Start problem/failure to function. Ultimately (after 2 visits and full check out of system) Ford Dealer said that it was the battery and as it had the Stop/Start etc functions it would require the correct but expensive battery, 6 months out of warranty period. Daughter given the option of a free replacement battery or pay £21.50 and get a 3 year warranty on the battery which she took. Out of warranty but Ford Dealer replaced it and didn't charge anything for diagnosis.

I think I traced my problem to the connection on the battery. Not the main terminal but there are some small secondary wires that leads off the Terminals. these provides the signal to the BCM and mine was getting an intermittent signal error from a loose connection. Gave it a clean and a wiggle and no problems for the last 2 months. Hopefully as simple as that.

Thanks, I think the dealer tried that (although sometimes a few pokes and pushes in the right places can do the trick). I'll try that before I have to bring it back for the 600euro job. Thanks for help

I also have had this error (Start/stop does not function, error message on my MFD). I bought a Carista to see if that gives me more information and there are a number of errors: engine fault code 25796 ("manufacturer specific code") and ABS fault code 00397 (Display test, blue segments). I had the front disks and pads replaced by the dealer at the last service - could that be related? I'm not 100% but I think the start-stop has occurred since the service; its been a few weeks now, but I've not been driving the van much due to the current situation.

I also have fault codes for the airbag and auxiliary heater (is that the one that automatically heats the engine on cold days or the overnight heater?). I presume they are not related.

Any suggestions; the van is out of warranty now, but I have a suspicion that its to do with the work the dealer did

Check that they didn't disconnect any ABS sensor plugs behind the disks.
