Anyone else stranded on continent? We were due on the Santander ferry on the 23rd which has now been cancelled so stuck on a campsite on the Algarve for possibly a few months as borders are apparently now closed?

I’m stuck in Finland. Good luck!

Hi this is from the UK.Gov FCO site this morning but guess you may already have looked at this

The Portuguese government introduced border controls on its land border with Spain from 2300 hours on 16 March until 15 April. Cross border workers, goods traffic and people entering or leaving Portugal to return to their place of residence will be allowed to travel. All travellers will be subject to health screening. We recommend that British Nationals who wish to leave the country make arrangements to do so as soon as possible.

Cheers Kelvin

Is it not the case that as long you can show that your on your way home (UK?), that you would be allowed to travel across the Spanish & French land mass to the Channel ports ?....maybe book a channel crossing to prove why your travelling.

I am in Portugal up the Rio Guadiana looking across the river to the Spanish side now, all very very quite.

We'd rather be stuck in Portugal than Finland, in spring!

As we read somewhere: "Our (grand)parents were called to war. We are called to our couch (or Cali camping chair, in your cases). We can do it!"
I would pick even Greenland over current Italy anytime. And Spain Portugal just a couple weeks behind.

State of Emergency for an initial 15 days starts here at midnight, usual conditions, have to clearly justify why your out of your house, and only permissible for those who work, and to get food from the shop or to go to chemist.

Look after yourself. Seems along time ago since we had that meal in the square.

Cheers Mike, as you know there are far worse places to be in quarantine than here at Alcoutim.....Kevin

Stranded in Andalusia as ferry from Santander cancelled. No prospect of return until 14/4. earliest but prob much later. Lockdown in operation with solo visits only to food shop/bank/ pharmacy. Guardia Civil imposing on the spot fines of €300-€1000 if you’re taking the mickey. British embassy has issued a letter for drivers to carry (in Eng/Spanish/French) promising you are going home and not being a fool basically. Of course this only applies if you’re going to Calais which is still open for ferry travel and tunnel. That’d be two day journey for us, no hotel ( they’re all shut) and Calais might close whilst your trying to get there. Best stay put and probably safer health wise as UK about to suffer what Italy and Spain has and exacerbated by thick arrogant Brits at home thinking it’s all a load of tosh. Spanish think we’re idiots carrying in like nothing has happened. I agree.

I agree wholeheartedly. Stay put if you can.

Your the man on the ground and know your own circumstances but I know that personally I would be doing everything I could to get home.

Got back from Morocco Wednesday night. All our ferry tickets were cancelled. Drove from the Atlas Mountains to Cueta on Monday and got the last ferry to Algeciras before the border closed. Tuesday drove through Spain to France no problems Fuel stations open on Autovias. Wednesday drove through France to Calais P&O still operating. Plenty of automated fuelling points in France. Got home Midnight Wednesday. Just keep moving if you want to get home. Going to Bognor next year!

Such as? There are road blocks and borders police to contend with so I’m a bit puzzled what you mean.

Your in a very stressful situation and as I said the man on the ground.

Your initial post suggested that due to how it would probably play out in the UK you were safer there. I was purely pointing out that for me I would want do everything to get home. If you can’t or make the judgement not to it’s your shout and a difficult one. Good luck.

Clearly you have absolutely no idea what measures the majority of people are taking voluntarily in the UK! Furthermore, it is very unlikely that the impact in the UK will be as serious as it has been in Italy due to the very specific and unusual demographics of that country. Things are certainly going to get much worse and I'm not putting my head in the sand, but the British habit of always doing their own country and people down really hacks me off particularly when it is in itself born out of ignorance!
