Hi guys my t4 2.4 diesel AAB engine 1992 has decided not to start anymore, Was running ok 6 month ok been in storage , glow plugs done air filter and fuel filter done got fuel to pump, turns over no problem just no fire ? Have a new ignition switch on order Can hear and feel glowplug relay and injector relay working .
im now we’ll confused
any ideas

many thanks

Glow plug fuse. Under the bonnet on a small black box.

There is a thread on this posted in the 4 section. I’ll try to find it.

Here you go.

Hi I’ve checked all fuses under bonnet all ok and in main fuse box

Ok so just work through the instructions in the thread above and you’ll get it going.

Thanks
have been through the instructions on that thread , the only thing im not getting it a constant 12v from cut off when cranking engine , it drops to 9v ish , hence the new ignition switch on order ,
unless I’m missing another fuse somewhere, only found three in engine bay 2 for fans and one top right hand side above battery?
the only other is the glow plug relay I can hear and feel it click but it has components inside so just coz its clicking I’m not guaranteed it’s working?
if ignition switch don’t cure fault that’s my next thing to change .

thanks for your help

Did all this occur after changing the diesel filter?
Is your filter filled up with diesel?
The engine might be sucking air instead of diesel, making it not fire up?

No been like is since I got it out of storage, my plan while in lock down was to do a service,
new battery, fuel filter new and full of diesel fuel in clear pipe pump full just no fire ,
new glow plugs and air filter

get a diagnostic tester on it. I think you can hire out a vcds diagnostics tool from the club shop.

Thanks

Ok your 9v could be the issue. I don’t know what the drop out voltage is on the solenoid.
How new is the battery?

You could try putting a 12v supply onto the cutout solenoid from a spare/different battery.
This will eliminate cranking volt drop on your battery.

Also you could bypass the glow plug relay and put a supply directly onto the plugs. This will prove/dis prove your relay.

I’ll try the direct to battery for glow plugs if that doesn’t work new ignition switch should be a couple of days

thanks again

Hi got my T4 to fire up but now I have rough idle and dies when I press the throttle ?
any ideas ?

You mention earlier it has been in storage for 6 months. I would agree with Triplebee. Maybe the right time to drop the tank and do a deep clean? (unless you are very sure that all is well with the fuel tank (and the fuel in the tank)).

Fuel filter new ( Bosch ) I have added new diesel about half a tank , can see any air in line only when I stop the engine , clear feed line fuel runs back ?
