Could someone please translate into English? "Dr Casten Intra, chairman of the board of management at VW Commercial Vehicles, says the ID. California “ will combine the ongoing trend towards mobile leisure arrangements with sustainable CO2-neutral mobility.” "

Thank you

It means it’s ideal because you get somewhere to sleep whilst you’re waiting for the battery to charge

On the German site Caliboard a good informed member stated today some interesting specs for the electrical California Buzz camper:

The new ID California will have a pop-up roof that folds out on both sides. This widens the bed at the top to 1.40 m. The movable suspension elements add 5 cm and a 4 cm thick mattress lies on top, which automatically inflates to 10 cm when the purely electrically powered roof is opened, electrically of course. The kitchen has a 2 burner hob with induction hobs and the water point now also supplies hot water (electric boiler). The rear extension can also be extended and retracted electrically as an option.

Without gas off grid use becomes more of a challenge.

That’s a good point. I hadn’t even thought about bottled gas being phased out. Long time yet but I now see why the EV Cali will have an electric hob.
So, a future 1st world question might be:
Cooked breakfast or longer driving range?

And no diesel heater? So being cold with no hot food - may be they just want to discourage off grid living.

Just sold my shares in Campingaz....
Haha. Careful if you buy into Lithium @marchugo .
Many years ago I invested a very small amount as a bit of fun/speculation in a company called Dajin Lithium Corporation who have the rights to Lithium extraction in various locations. One location is adjacent to the Tesla battery factory in Nevada so I thought it could be a good bet. How wrong was I, the shares have halved in price :)
I’m holding on to them though - this time next year Rodney, I could be a millionaire!

We all will be millionaire - if we invest in the real long enough term...

Marc.

I've already put my name down for an ID BUZZ, being a serial upgrader. However, as it now seems to be coming to light that it is an ALL electric vehicle, and being a wildcamper, it might be a vehicle in my case which is not " fit for purpose ".

Carry a diesel generator in the boot to provide EHU :)

I’m anticipating there’ll be no separate electrics / gas requirement for the camping setup, as any ‘off grid’ consumption will be incidental for the capacity of the vehicle batteries. Would result in significant weight / space saving.

@SusiBus when you say you’ve put your name for one; do you mean just for updates, or something more? If the latter I’d love to know where and how as I’m in the same boat as you and would love one on launch.

I wonder if it would charge off the campsite EHU?

Should do. Household car charges running off a standard 3 pin socket run at 10amps max and will adjust if the amps should drop…but they do take a while.

Would also depend on what else you have plugged in - if you are sleeping then not really an issue.

The Caravan Club are moving with the times, but not off EHU
A shame that they‘re using kW as a unit for the amount required. I’ve emailed them - “Pleased to see that you are starting to offer EV charging. On your website at https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-ho...ties-on-club-sites/electric-vehicle-charging/ you are using “kW” to define amount of electricity required. This is potentially confusing for EV owners as kW is a measure of the rate at which electricity is supplied to the vehicle, not the amount. The amount of electricity is defined in kWh (kilowatt hours), this is the terminology you need to use.”

It will be interesting to see if the IDBuzz camper has a regular EHU connection as well as the high power type found on EV’s.
VW claim 15mins to 80% on a 150kw charger
With maybe 2kw possible from EHU simple logic would mean the same 80% taking 75 times longer (about 18 hours) at 2kw. In the context of arriving at a site to park up for a couple of days that’s not too bad.
Wild camping would just mean stopping for a coffee & charge before you leave civilisation for a few days.

EHU (commando) - most unlikely. In addition to high power charging all EVs I’m aware of can be charged from a domestic supply using the “granny charger”. Current drawn (amps) can be restricted further. Best not to forget that you’re charging your vehicle from the EHU at 10 amps if you want to use the kettle or hair dryer?
