New T6.1 order delays

There doesn’t seem to be any consistency anywhere

I had a status code 40 (at UK port) over 2 weeks ago on a June ‘21 ocean order and my dealer (listers) said it would be about another 4 week from there until it was with me. This seemed a long time looking at other posts on here

I’ve heard nothing from them since. I’ve got AutoEBid chasing them too and the they’ve gone completely quiet on us. Not responding to emails or calls

I also ordered from Listers via Autoebid (Coast ordered 1st October being delivered (finger’s crossed) to our doorstep tomorrow. I spent quite a bit of the £6K discount available by ordering through them on options. I haven’t had any difficulty getting through on the phone to Nick the dealer but it does sound like he has had a very large number of vehicles arrive at the same time. I did go to my local dealer at the time of ordering but they couldn’t price match. I guess it’s not unreasonable for those paying a bit more to their local dealer and not using an internet broker to get better customer service. It also sounds like the delivery driver who drops off the vehicle won’t be providing the same ‘handover experience’ that you would perhaps get from a local dealer who is charging more. I suspect I’ll be watching a few Utube videos tomorrow…….

That's the annoying thing - the system is working for some but not others. I'm no expert on vehicle manufacture, but IT is my area and I find it almost impossible to believe they genuinely don't know what's going on with these "limbo" vans.

I can only assume the factory is littered with half finished Cali's, post it notes stuck on the windscreen saying what bits they are missing. :D
I used to manage Auto OEM Factory IT systems. While the post it note analogy is a little off, thankfully, it's not too far off. The productions management systems are finely tuned to JIT (Just in time) processes and when that goes out the window due to shortages manual processes kick in. For sure they will be "handballing" vans through to certain stages and then having to pull them offline and stack them in groups awaiting parts. Rather than everything working like a well oiled machine you end up with a stop start manufacturing process with many exceptions and batches going through a part process, then awaiting more work latter - sometimes having to be pulled back into the line, often fitted offline. TBH, given the circumstances, I'd trust VW to manage it better than anyone else. It's an imperfect storm with multiple shortages from multiple suppliers all at once and shown a massive weakness in the JIT system thinking across the industry.

An order from Listers is buying from their fleet services and I remember Karen from Autoebid saying I could pay £700 more and order through a normal one-to-one salesman and get a more personal experience. Saying that, my experience with Listers was awful. Took over 2 weeks after arriving at port before they even admitted to having the vehicle....then they said it would need a PDI which had to be done at another site. Total contrast to subsequent order through Eurovans Crawley. Told me vehicle had a arrived at port on a Monday. PDI completed immediately and delivered 3 days later on the Thursday!

I’ve had an update on my California Beach Camper (with quite a few options) of build week 24 (next week)

Estimated delivery of end of august / early September.

I only ordered in March so would mean a 5-6 month turnaround if it turns up in late summer!

Phoned the VW dealers at Liverpool today to check our order.
told its planned for build week 29
I've had my order confirmed and it seems to be running on schedule for late August I was originally told middle of August when ordered so it's two weeks over at present.
I ordered a 4Motion Ocean which was placed late September 2021
trying not to think too much about it ,and hoping it stays on track for dates advised

Called my dealer today and found that my Beach Camper is scheduled for build in Week 22! Ordered Nov 28th 2021, and dealer reckons I should have it before end of July.. lots of options including Driver Assistance package with this week’s feared delaymaker, Side Assist.

So now I can start reading other threads in this forum again :):) and start dreaming of accessories and trips away..
That's awesome mate. I ordered my Beach Camper mid Jan and dealer told me yesterday it's being built and I should get it end July. Seeing the other experiences, I fully expected next year. Enjoy your new van.

Did you have the side assist removed if you don't mind me asking ?

We have quite a few added options including side assistance.
I have not added or remove anything from my original order as I was advised in the early days that changing my order in the present climate 2021(covid times not Ukraine)could cause extra delays.
We would like everything we've ordered, so we will wait till our vehicle arrives, whenever that will be.

If it’s being built next week, I suspect you could get it before the end of July.

Apparently VW are struggling with parts for the side assist, which comes standard with the oceans. What most have been offered is a choice to remove this standard option in order to receive their van earlier. Only asking because we ordered ours at the start of September and don’t have any build week.

We’re being told we’ll get ours in September because we’ve opted to keep the side assist feature

Reading some of the posts above with 'comparatively' short lead times, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever see my Ocean. Clearly not being built on a 'first come, first served' basis, even for similarly-specced vehicles.
Ordered my 204 4M in June 2021. Opted to keep side assist. Have just been advised (following my request for an update, of course) that it's now status 10 with a build week of 40 ! So I may be lucky to get behind the wheel some time in November, I guess.

We are waiting on our Ocean Edition 204 4 motion ordered October 2020 still :(. It is supposed to be build this month.

Is your signature correct? An Ocean 204 ordered in September last year and on the way?

Who did you have to sleep with to get that so fast? :D
Signature is correct, ordered about the 3rd/4th Sept 2021!
I’m surprised it’s happened, seeing as other Oceans ordered before that don’t have a build week.
I was never contacted about the side assist issue either.
I wonder if dealer allocation has anything to do with it and some dealers order beyond their allocation so have build slots in the following allocation? (Just a guess)

My dealer didn't know about the side assist issue - I had to tell them:rolleyes:

Who knows? VW need to keep the line running as normal as possible so probably shifting stuff around to make best use of what they have available parts wise.

I’ve just heard that our Ocean is also at the port in Germany waiting for a ship. It was ordered late June ‘21 and build was week 21. Anticipated collection the end of this month.
Yeah ours has been waiting for a ship from Emden to Tyne (where the Liverpool van centre Vans come in) for a week and a half now, it seemed to miss the last Tyne bound boat by half a day :(

Seem to be constant boats emden to sheerness and emden to Grimsby just not Tyne :(

We picked our California Coast up today from Liverpool Van Centre ( Amy was great right from ordering to collection).

A short and pain free wait compared to some of you guys.

We’ve used the forum to influence pretty much every decision we’ve made around specification so it feels like a team effort. Thank you for the virtual ‘hand holding’, advice, wisdom and good humour. Phil

I've had a confirmed build week 27 on a September 2021 Ocean order with a long list of options added. Woo!

Wow I ordered mine on the 4th September and still nothing. No build date or anything :( Who did you order yours through ?

Congrats btw - not that I'm jealous haha

Finally had some communication (from autoebid) today that our coast ordered sep 21 is built and on its way to a German port! Was beginning to think it would never happen, will now have to wait not so patiently for more info as it makes its way to the dealer … Ours was build week 11 March:)

I ordered mine from SMG Tonbridge.
Hope you get some positive news about yours soon. The build sequences don’t make any sense at all!
