So then, the Buzz Cargo is online for real

Well, the Buzz with a bed kinda vindicates my decision to cancel my pre order as far as I’m concerned.

As for the Cargo…… well I think I will do the difficult thing and wait until I can see/drive/play for real with one. Maybe the LWB will be out next year….. also the converters/suppliers might have developed front swivels and R&R beds that fit and are crash tested by then.

Also for the moment I don’t feel too bad about driving a diesel…….. as much as I want to save the planet I would like to see electricity prices settle before I ‘go all the way’ ……….
It’s a view I hear a lot with regards driving a diesel and the environmental impact, my view for what its worth is we need to stop being such heavy consumers the impact of driving an old car can never be as bad as buying new cars electric or diesel every few years and that goes for every other product we all feel the need to constantly change far to much waste i think.

So then, back to the thread…….

Does anyone know or suspect if the bulkhead on the Cargo can be removed? There isn’t an option to deselect it on the configurator. I’m also wondering if the 230v option will allow high current (say 1 or 2 Kw?)
I’d be surprised. I bought a new Caddy a few years ago and tried to remove the bhd. Nightmare.

Jerba Campervan did a video about converting an ID.Buz. They concluded they’d need to scale down their existing units by 15-20% to fit in the Buz.

Thanks, interesting overview from Jerba who we would absolutely have bought from hadn’t the waiting time been ‘pipped at the post’ by Liverpool VW centre having an Ocean available. I’ll be watching with interest the developments here.

I still think I’ll sit this out for a while ……..

The VW marketroids must me literally rolling about on the floor laughing!!

“The stupid f*****s actually fell for it”

I had been thinking about cancelling our pre order for a ID. Buzz. To be honest, l'm not fully sold on the whole EV thing. The environmental aspect, where is all the electric stuff going to come from in the future, etc.
But I've just been told it's sitting in Emden waiting to be shipped, so now is probably to late to cancel, besides, I've been offered over list to sell it back to VW. I think l will stick with my original decision, to have an EV before I die, I am now 77 and running out of years. So VW you'll have to wait.

You’ll love it, an EV is such a brilliant car to drive and the ID.Buzz is the coolest of all. What’s not to like….;-)

Looks good. Might have a look at one after Christmas. My Caddy is looking very tired....

Look forward to a pic!

The ID Buzz looks brill but the next California IMHO will be based on the Ford partnership and as the new Tourneo E due out early 2023 has a range of 230 miles seems the logical step. I would still buy a Buzz as my next car.

230 advertised miles = 160-180 real world miles. Which is why this will never work.

180miles is about 3 hours driving, so most folk would need a break at that point. A wee stop and a coffee break would be enough time for a charge.

Most other days you’re unlikely to do more than 180miles, so top up each night at home and it’s dead easy.

As/when a camper version comes along I’ll be looking to swap.

It’s interesting to see how this thread is progressing. Since I first put the 2k deposit on one and then cancelled it a few weeks later I have ‘consolidated’ my views on the subject.

I often refer to our California Coast as the best ‘compromise’ regarding its use as a car when needed or as a camper when needed. It is much smaller than our previous Fiat Ducato campers but SO much nicer to drive…….. everywhere. Sometimes I do miss not having a proper loo on board, being to stand up all through the van, not having to make up the bed each night, being able to turn up and be instantly a mini home without any of the associated faff of a small camper. On the other hand the VW simply provides more smiles per mile and I can’t quite account for that ( but you all know why or you would be on this forum!)

The Buzz in its current form is simply a step too far away either from comfort or convenience. I could live with the range and charging limits but if I really wanted a smaller van I’d be better off with an electric Nissan EV200 conversion (seriously! It would be no smaller than a buzz camper and half the price).

So I am back to the drawing board. Until VW make a LWB Buzz Cargo without a bulkhead, with 2 swivel seats and with rails for extra seating then I will stay with my Coast.

Do I feel guilty about this? Yes I do actually but I can not get too excited about ‘going green’ at all costs.

The California on an ID Buzz will be a Beach or similar cut down version from what I have gathered. The next California proper will be on the VW version of the Ford Tourneo whether electric hybrid or what. That is similar dimensions to the T6.1. As the Ford can tow 2000kg it seems logical to offer VW the best option and maybe a bigger battery.

Yeah I will be looking at these closely :thumb

That’s much how I viewed the Born when I got it.
And then you learn the stuff that’s they don’t tell you in the glossy brochure. That the normal useable battery range is 20-80% so that, in this case, the nominal 180 miles becomes 108 miles, and that’s unladen, in summer, on the flat, and driving slowly. And that whilst the van can charge at up to 115kw most chargers can’t and those that can, don’t. You’re lucky if you get over 50kW most of the time. If it works at all and there isn’t a queue. And that to squeeze the last 10-15kwh in if you do decide to go up to 100% is really, really slow.
I’m not trying to be negative and I have nothing but praise for the Born for our use for a 70mile/day commute and local runaround charged mainly at home; its brilliant. But I no longer confuse that with practicality for use in other ways.
It will get there, range and infrastructure will develop at pace, but it has a long way to go before I think we’ll see a van that can take a camper conversion and still provide enough practical range to be appealing to the majority in real world use.

Max payload of 607kg, and losing over a foot of space between bed and front seats would limit a conversation.

Interesting that it’s wider than a Cali
It's 81mm wider. I think the interior floor is lower. Yes it's quite a bit shorter, (a problem), and a little bit lower overall, but I wonder what the internal overall useable volume is? The longer wheelbase, when it comes, could possibly make a perfect small camper. I hope it does, I've got the number plate ready for it, BU22 BED

Removable seats in the rear, be interested to know the price:

Remember the same people are building the next generation VW Transporter so apart from slight bodyshell tweaks they will be almost the same.
