Drivers door leaking

Hi
U have a 22 6.1 Ocean and have noticed water pooling in the drivers foot well and on the sill.
I see beads of water below the door card and suspect that the seal between the window carrier and the door frame is faulty and allowing water to breach the seal. I have checked the drain holes and they are clear.
It's with VW at the moment and they are saying it's water from the awning when I open the door! I think I may have noticed that.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Thanks

Colin

I’d agree with you that it’s the window seal and excess is hitting the drain holes. As you are under warranty should be covered and with a hose for them an easy test.

Hi,
It's with the dealers at the moment.
They stated its water from the awning when I open the door! They say the water test did not reveal a leak.
I have rejected their diagnosis and am in ongoing discussion in order to get them to inspect the window carrier seal.

The door is designed to receive water , then it drains through the bottom of the door (outside the weather seal).
If water is getting past the seal, the water route is compromised and needs to be cleared to allow proper ventilation of the water

Don't think so, there are water droplets coning from behind the door card.
Do you know how you could identify a blocked roof drain?

Looking again, I guess the water would be further into the footwear if it were a blocked drain?

The door drains are clear.

Check the metal baffle plate on the inside of the door (behind the decor panel) is actually sealed to the door panel to prevent water ingress ,if the seal is incomplete or compromised water can transit past and into the vehicle if the panel seal is compromised.

Here is a picture of the plate designed to keep water out (ignore the additional sound proofing applied to the panel) the bottom edge should be sealed completely (attached to the door panel)

Edit, you can simply check this by pouring water down the window to check it come out of the drains and no where else , o suspect yours is comming out the bottom of the door card slightly, hence it's getting past the door seal.
Water will be accumulating under the plastic step (it causes rust as the step plastic step supports rub the paint away where it touches the chassis)

Had this on a previous van. Lots of threads on it, some here:

If you’re still in warranty then I would persist with the dealer, or take it to a different one - it’s a known problem which they should be familiar with and should fix. I took a video of water dripping off the underside of the door card after it had been raining which was accepted by the dealer. They took the door card off and sorted it under warranty. Poor design though.
