Hmmm...never been an issue before, want a California in the UK? Your awing is on the right (drivers side).

Now with the T7 you get to choose...right side or left side?

Or can you swap them over post delivery? So it doesn't even matter what you order?

Confused :)

I would have thought the R side , Drivers side RHD on the Ocean. Because although you have 2 sliding doors the L side is partially obstructed by the kitchen.

I was thinking that too...then I noticed that having the awning over the kitchen side is kind of handy and you are sheltered when using the outside kitchen units attached table! Or when you reach over to get stuff from the fridge whilst being sheltered from the blazing sun or sudden rain shower!

So i'm thinking left is best now :)

Definitely kitchen side. Extra table surface and plug socket can then be used. I believe they can be swapped around to try both though!

Good point - plug sockets on the left (kitchen) side...well handy! You could put a single induction hob on the small table and plug it into the socket - veggie sausages and other delectable stuff for your tea...even when its raining! The T7 is looking like a better option already :)

Awning on mine is on the kitchen side.

Has anyone actually tried to swap over the side their T7 awning is attached? Looks fairly heavy to me - but is it possible?

Ordered with it on the UK nearside.
So I can open the fridge for a cold one without stepping inside.

According to dealer it’s easy to move from one side to the other.
The awning is locked onto the rail, so you’ll need the keys to move.

Excellent. Good to know :)

I would say a handy feature...if you wanted a tent style awning on the side of the roll out one...just move it to the other side - perfect!

I had the same thoughts.

Thanks. Good to know.
I just heard back from a VW California designated VW dealership who have right hand (drivers) side mounted awning on some new T7 California Oceans they have available - they tell me the awnings can be moved from the right side to the left side, and advise: "you would need to order additional brackets to swap to the other side, and it doesn’t quite fit the same when swapped over."

Calling all T7 California owners!!!

Has anyone changed their awning from it's mounting on the awning rail one side to the other side?

How did this go?

Did it need any extra mounting kit from VW? Was it straight forward and doable with one person?

Thanks for your help :)

I haven’t done it. Some people claim to have done it and that it is straightforward, but it doesn’t look like a straight swap to me and i have seen some people in Europe not being able to do it without the additional kit. Perhaps @Woodstock25 can share the steps to make the switch.

I would go for kitchen side too. Alternatively you can use a sail on the other other side against the sun. for attachment on the van have can two options; sail chord or rings.

Hi, I recently took delivery of the T7 Ocean - love it. When I bought it, the sales guy said the default was LHR, but you can order it fitted on the RHS if you prefer. You can even order without an awning at all, but the price was the same. There are rails and roof fixing points on both sides, and the sales guy said you can swap over the awning post purchase. I took a look just now, there are two awning brackets that slide and bolt into the rail, plus there are two bolts that hold each bracket in place on the roof. It doesn't look impossible, but I can imagine fiddly to swap around. I assume the brackets are reversible. I went for the default, so the standard awning is fitted on the passenger/LHS. There are two roof bolt points for the brackets on the driver's/RHS side. See some images.

Thanks. That is really helpful.
I agree, it looks like it would be a tricky job to swap the awning to the opposite side to factory.
The key and awning unwind socket would be on the opposite end as well, but my guess is that would not cause any significant issues.

It would appear the rear bracket would be a straight swap to the other side, BUT not so the front bracket .
