I’ve checked the many threads and can’t find out whether anyone has successfully swapped the VW roof bed mattress for a 5cm Duvalet gold topper? It’s the same thickness but heavier..

There's a lot of threads on mattresses but if its the same thickness then it shouldn't be an issue.
Duvalay has a big fan base on here so I'm sure someone will have done.

We got a Panda - 5cms and its fine up there.

Thank you, is the Panda heavier? I was wondering if the Duvalet would overload the struts when it’s up all day?

I’m sorry, but is this a serious question?
If the bed struts can’t handle a 5cm mattress indefinitely then they certainly cannot handle two adults sleeping up there.

Is that a sensible answer?

Sounds like a sensible question to me.

I don’t know any one who who sleeps on the bed in the raised position, but plenty that pop the bed up with stuff on it.

I don’t know how much weight those bed struts can hold, we’ve had a couple of duvets and a few pillows but nothing really heavy.

Its about 7kgs I think. But as @WelshGas says, nothing to worry about. Unless you're shifting it about I guess. I've never weighed the original one, but if its anything like the (UN)comfort mattress its pretty weighty.

We used to have it as the downstairs one and rolled it up easily (held with velcro straps) and it fits on the back shelf with ease, but decided why have two when you can have one and just move it accordingly.

Figured you get 30 days to try it so if it was no good it could go back and spend the extra on the duvalay, but I've found it really comfortable, and the bamboo cover takes the heat of sleeping.
Plus the 10 year warranty is a bonus.

Yes it is. Because most of the weight will be taken by the rear of the bed, not the gas struts, and the bed platform copes with the OEM mattress just fine.

Thank you, so if you sleep two nights in a row up top do you leave the Panda up in the roof during the day?
