It appears a Chinese electric bus in Norway has been found with a kill switch!!! First trade dispute and they can turn everything off. Was this not the concern about using Chinese software to control the reactor at Sizewell C? None of this is surprising. Pretty good reason to NEVER buy a Chinese BEV. I wouldn't touch one with a 20 foot barge pole even if they were giving them away.

Hundreds of British buses have Chinese 'kill switch'

On reading the actual Torygraph and GB "News" article the words could, believe and may are spread throughout.

It's classic tin foil clickbait.

One assumes the same issues apply if using VW that if Germany were to start WW3 they could also do the same to our VW via the OTA update. Or India on my Defender. Etc.

The Chinese government have previous!! You have forgotten the recent spying case involving those 2 Brits last month. The comparisons with VW and Germany are far fetched.

The comparisons are meant to be farfetched.

Personally I'm here for Cali chat and chaps. So I'll bow out of this politik convo and leave you to it.

Its not just the Chinese.

There are a lot of Porsches in Russia that wont work at the moment - its the Vehicle tracking system loosing contact with the satellites & assuming the cars been stolen & immobilising it.

The Russian dealers are blaming the West, some owners are blaming the Russian dealers as apparently for a hefty fee they can override the system & get the cars going again.

The security models aren't comparable. Nuclear control systems are subject to air-gapping and supply chain scrutiny that a municipal bus procurement team simply doesn't do.
As I work in the industry, I can assure you that we operate under very strict governance underpinned by the ONR. We simply don't allow the kind of remote connectivity found in commercial vehicles.

Conspiracy nonsense designed to spread fear and division amongst the gullible and has no place here, or indeed, anywhere.

With the rate at which Chinese BEV's are taking market share, I fear that in the not too distant future we all may have no choice but to drive around in one, or revert to walking everywhere!!!!

Anecdotally it feels like a repeat of the Japanese decimating the global motorbike industry.

Is that a fair comparison? Look at what was available prior to the Jap invasion? It was ancient heavy dull British, oil leaking single cylinder junk.
I’d hardly describe the current Chinese alternative in a similar manner?

I can't see VW being in business much longer. What with it's crippling debt, dieselgate, their current range of EV's, ID Buzz sales falure, rebadged Ford vans, and dare l say it, the Multivan T7, which IMO doesn't provide what the old T6.1 did. Yes it's probably going to be Chinese in the not to distant future. What does worry me, is all the unemployment in Germany when VW collapses.

Tbf to VW, the very latest EVs from them are getting very good reviews.
