Beach 4 Motion

Sorry didn't mention above that was concerning the 4motion.
Ps love the colour of your Cali
Thanks. We love the Sunny Yellow colour and wish it was still available. Good light colour, doesn't absorb too much heat from the sun and really stands out in a field of the white camper vans you get out here in NZ.
I have a picture of it amongst a lot of yellow Caterpillar bulldozers on a beach, I'll try and dig it out and post it on here.

I think that a RHD 4 Motion version was available in South Africa previously, I was hoping that you could now get one in UK. I would definitely consider buying one and shipping it to NZ as you can only get the Ocean out here.

Look forward to seeing that picture if you find it.
We also love the sunny yellow, even thought we didn't go out to buy a yellow cali we went looking just as VW stopped orders for the T5 and ours was in the show room and had most of the spec (except 4motion) we would have picked so decided to go for it and love it and the colour.

May one day they will make a RHD 4 motion Beach, it would be the only thing that would make me consider swoping mine.

Because a friend of me is currently in NZ and I was amazed by all these great pictures, I looked into shipping our Cali to NZ and back just to get an idea of the price. The quote I got was 904 GBP from Rainham (UK) to Auckland, so from South Africa should be less. This was through autoshippers and they have a way of stacking more cars in a container.

Still thinking about a NZ trip with out cali if we can go for 1month+ that is. I need to figure out import taxes and all that. But 2000 GBP to have our own 4wd cali there doesn't feel like too much.

I honestly don't think it would be worth the expense and risk of shipping a Cali over here for a holiday unless you are looking at 3 - 6 months. There are no end of campers to rent and you would be better off having one based on a VW Crafter or similar - not a lot of traffic and loads of motorhome friendly places to park.

You'll only get one Cali in a 20ft container and it's tight. Cost me £1200+ and I know prices have gone up since Brexit due to fall in GB£

What you could consider doing is shipping it here and selling when you go back bearing in mind that a new Ocean is NZ$130000 over here.

Hi Andy,

I'm prepared to pay a bit more than rental price because there's nothing like the comfort of your cali which the children are used to (sleep comfort). The thing that's holiding me back is, like you also state : risk. What if something goes wrong in shipping or the car gets damaged. So I was investigating both options.
I got a quote from autoshippers.co.uk for GBP 980 (Rainham->Auckland) but it's excluding port taxes and that might be about GBP 800 for container shipping, less for RO/RO. And excluding (expensive) insurance as well. So yes you're probably right that unless for a 3+ month period it's not worth it.

But we are looking at renting a 5 person (4 sleeping places is ok, 5 seats with belts), preferably 4x4 camper with heater (because we will be there in Winter!) for 3-4 weeks. I cannot find that. I was looking at a Jucy Condo https://www.jucy.co.nz/our-vehicles/camper-vans/jucy-condo/, but it is NOT 4x4 and does NOT have a heater.. Then they start charging you daily for all the extras (chairs, table, snowchains, camping gears, bbq, roof rack, ...) which I already have on my own Cali.

Is there a rental company you would recommend for a 4x4 5 person camper with heater?

Hi Andy,

If you are here in Winter you will find many of the 4x4 roads such as the Molesworth Pass will be closed. It will also be dark fairly early around 5pm so the days will be short. If you are coming this winter, be aware that the Lion's tour is in June / early July so there will be higher demand.

Some rental companies offering discounts and private camper vans for hire.

Thank you. Won't be for this summer, already have plans for Iceland. Perhaps next summer. I understand some roads are closed and it's not the ideal season but I also love Iceland in winter and the same applies there. If you love snow..
A lot of European companies offer this type of tour in (our) summer months july/august, because many people are in the same situation; anyone with children attending school only has 2 weeks the rest of the year and including flights it's just not enough I'm afraid (12-13 days max)... But it's a tough choice.
