Hello everyone on this Gloriously sunny day, We are in Leeds and want to go to Jersey in our camper the check in at Poole is 7.00 a. m if we got there evening before can you wait inline? or is there a good hotel or campsite nearby with secure parking as we will be fully loaded including bikes, Or should we just Go to France as Jersey doesn't seem to be user Friendly, Thanks in Advance .

We have done the ferry a few times from Poole to Jersey, not the best cruise port in the country that's for sure for facilities.
We visited Jersey for about every year for 10 years but stopped going in 2024 .
It has become overcrowded and so so expensive

We started going to France and it is literally a third of the price of Jersey, for accommodation, food, drink in fact everything and it seemed a lot friendler.
In my opinion Jersey has turned from a holiday destination to a purely business driven island
( Always probably has been )

Sidmouth on Tour, Thank you for your response, very informative, we have done France alot we love it but I thought Jersey might be easy, As in once your there no more driving, Thanks again.

Try this one ten minutes down the road and a pub in walking distance.

There is only about x4 campsites on Jersey

Jersey has been taken over by BF recently so I'm not sure if the parking would have changed, but BF do have a park up area in Poole which I often see with Campers and Motorhomes when I've come back from France late. I'm sure if you sent them an email they could advise.

I'd like to do Jersey myself as we can take the dog without passport hassle but it seems ridiculously expensive compared to St Malo or Caen.

I’m fairly sure you can park / camp in the lanes at Poole for a fee (£10/15 or something). I enquired last year and they said there was a toilet block available too. Probably not the most scenic but if you’re just getting your head down before a sailing then it’ll probably suffice.

Thanks so much, Yes it's looking like a few weeks in Amazing France again, Camper friendly.

Not been for about 5 years, however we found the island friendly enough and an interesting place to visit. There are very few sites and the van must be on site overnight; no wild camping whatsoever.
The bus service is limited; everything goes to and from the main port so you will want to drive most days. There is good walking, especially on the coasts.
We stayed at Rozel Bay, on a bus route, quiet.
Jersey is a bit pricey but it is a holiday destination at the end of the day. Worth going if only once.

Jersey is nice enough, but not cheap. It is no longer the bucket and spade hols and veg growing island of yore. One street in St Helier has more banks than the whole of East Suffolk. Still there's a great coast for walking and public transport is pretty good in season. I stayed in St H and used buses, little point in taking a camper van on ferry to be honest. Despite France being in sight, shops etc are all english. A week would be more than enough.

We went last year, couple and two dogs.Think we did 5 nights each in Jersey, then Guernsey. Good campsites, interesting islands ( preferred Guernsey) gorgeous beaches, free parking at beaches. Sad to see vegetable businesses no longer and clearly fewer hotels open, but we loved it, personally. We are from Portsmouth, so no probs with ferry times

We stayed overnight at the terminal on our way to France and on our return last year. We paid with a QR code. There are good toilet and shower facilities. We were asked to move across the car park when the Jersey ferry came in as we were in their boarding lane.

We loved it, take bikes and cycle everywhere….

Hi there,
I live in Jersey and we are heading over to Poole, we are not arriving until 11:45 pm so going to be staying at a Premier Inn overnight, agree the new ferries aren’t very accommodating, must be something to do with the tides and the size of the ship, you can always head over to France from Jersey, you could go as foot passengers and take your bikes with you?
Anyway, I hope you do make it over. It’s a gorgeous island and well worth a visit.

As a leisure cyclist in my 60s I wouldn’t cycle on Jersey apart from on the wider roads around St.H.
We found that most of the roads are too busy and often narrow to really enjoy cycling; it’s doable, though not fun for us.
If you are an ardent cyclist it would be an issue.

I live in Jersey. The service is now operated by DFDS from early this year. Hoping to use them to go to UK next month. I used a campsite at Moreton last year which was excellent. If I recall the drive time from Moreton was about 30 minutes although can’t remember what earliest check out time was although they were very accommodating.
The sailings are governed by the tides and the operating schedules determined by the ferry company not the island.
Whilst I agree Jersey is relatively expensive especially since Covid it is still a lovely island with great beaches and walking and a welcoming place.

There are quite a few cycle tracks now one in particular that takes you from St Brelades all the way into town, it’s the old railway walk. Saint Peters Valley also has a nice cycle track as well and that would take you from town to St Marys. I cycle this track when I take my bike to work.

Its the getting there I find V V expensive, just seems to be expensive waters for some reason. Maybe as you say, its because the ferries are governed by tides??
I'm not sure how much things are on the island, but then you expect to pay a bit more when they have to import so much I guess.

I agree with you about the fares esp if you compare with other routes. I guess it’s all down to economics; small harbour in Jersey restricts size of boat that can be used and fewer vehicles to move, also it’s a smaller market than for example, Calais.

There is talk that yesterday’s agreement with the EU means the reintroduction of pet passports, which is great news for pet owners going to France. No timescale announced though.

I heard a snippet on this, would be great if it got sorted but not going to hold my breath.
