EHU lock issue

When I’m on a campsite connected to the electric hook up and I shut the sliding door it locks and unlocks, the child lock button lights up and the dash board wakes up. By the third day if I haven’t driven the van I get a warning saying the engine battery is low. Also recently the sliding door locks about a second after the front doors lock when I press the remote. Anyone else had something similar?

Hi @DarrylRogers and welcome to the forum.

To mitigate your issues, have you tried selecting ‘camping mode’ on the overhead display? That ‘should’ sort out the dash lighting up, not sure about the side door locking/unlocking. Also put the headlight switch to ‘0’ to avoid headlamps coming on.

When you lock the van, a short time (1-2 seconds) after the door locks operate, the SAFELOCK system (deadlock) clicks on. It might be this you’re noticing.

If the engine battery is showing a fault (low) after 3 days being stationery, I’d say you need to monitor the voltage. It’s sounding like either you have a big power drain, which needs further investigation, or the battery is at end of life. Try getting a plug-in voltage display and slot it into the cigarette lighter socket so you can monitor conveniently.

Here’s a useful post about battery condition….

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I should have said I do put the van into camping mode which stops internal lights every time we open the door. During normal use (weekly football runs) the van drives and behaves perfectly it’s only when we are on EHU it does this weird locking and unlocking.

Ah okay, sorry to get confused about the core issue. So when the vans NOT on EHU everything is normal, no locking issues, no child lock light etc.

Does the vehicle battery stay charged if you don’t use the van for a few days if it’s not driven?? If you haven’t already it’s worth monitoring the voltage when the van has been stationary for a few hours.
Just wondering if the lowered battery voltage is impacting the Safelock system ?

Weird happenings in the electrics of a van that can’t be explained can suggest some nibbling of wiring by rodents. But in this case that theory doesn’t work is the van is okay when NOT on hook-up.

I’ll copy this post to 2 trusted forum members who have a very wide knowledge, to see if they can shed some further light.

Do you have Full electric sliding door or a manual door with electric Soft Close?

We have a California Coast with a manual sliding door, no electric help unfortunately.

Hopefully you’re up for a little DIY investigation.
It sounds as if there is some electrical interference from the Mains Charger which is activated every time you plug into EHU.
The Mains Charger is located above the rear Leisure Battery located behind the Access door below the rear wardrobe on the L side of the boot.
Remove access door and the charger is above the leisure battery. On the L side of the charger is above mains plug, the same type of plug you use on an electric kettle.
Unplug it and then plug the vehicle into the external mains.
The kitchen mains socket will still function and the Control Panel will show you are NOT connected to the mains and NOT charging the Leisure Batteries.

Do you have the same symptoms with the Sliding Door etc?

Same campsite or any campsite?
And do you use the same hook up cable at home and when camping?

It’s on every campsite we’ve been to and yes I use the same cable at home with a short adapter to a 3 pin plug

So the even more weird part is it only does it on a campsite supply not whilst I’m at home plugged in.
Well it’s clearly nothing do with the EHU then unless you’re suggesting your house has different electricity!!!

Have you tried playing around in here?

It’s also the dash lighting up as well as the spurious locking issues. The dash being lit up for periods could explain why the vehicle battery is going low.

So what do you do, switch on or off on the Control Panel/ vehicle that you don’t do at home?
Does the OP activate camping mode when hooked up at home, I wonder?
Just pondering what might be different.

II was wondering this as well.

1 Camping mode active when camping?
2. Roof is raised when camping?
3. Using ramps when camping?

Although it doesn’t move this thread to firm resolution, the OP @DarrylRogers might like to read through the following thread and see if there are similarities.

I was wondering if the OP was confusing this fault with the door locking?

If you are on EH the leisure batteries are charged and the starter battery, so very strange that you are getting a low battery.
